Midsummer Inspiration: Jewel Tones

by Meg Keene, Editor-In-Chief

Midsummer Inspiration: Jewel Tones | A Practical WeddingThis week I went back and looked over lots of the lovely inspiration boards that Abby has on Style Me Pretty. Two Boards caught my eye right away. I’ve loved them for a long time now, and I finally noticed the obvious. Oh! Right! They are both all done in stunning and deep jewel tones. Second obvious fact? Jewel tones are my favorite colors. So, I think I was missing a obvious choice for colors for the wedding. Both of these boards have a lush, midsummer depth to them, which reminds me that I don’t have to go the dreaded pastel route!
Midsummer Inspiration: Jewel Tones | A Practical WeddingThank goodness, David and I have opted for the long and drawn out version of wedding planning, so I don’t have to worry much about our color palate or style boards for a while. I think it’s a mistake to get locked into colors and details until you know when, where, and what. What are you serving? What will your dress look like? What kind of a wedding party will you have? But, these are inspiring me, and keeping me thinking.

I love those boards too – especially the second one. It is so Mediterranean! There’s nothing wrong with stronger colors in the summer. Go for colors you love. You’re going to have to look at them in the pictures for a long time to come!

I chose my colors after I picked our venue. That was the very first choice we made. Luckily, it has multi-colored drapes, so my favorite color at the moment terracotta orange will go! :-)

I think we really are wedding sisters! Our wedding this August will be jewel tones..no true color “theme” but lots of jewel colors — drawn from the gorgeous silk lanterns my fiance’s parents brought back from Vietnam: purples, oranges, berry colors… yum yum and yum. It has been challenging in some ways, but I think it will turn out great (fingers crossed!)

Ohhh Aimee! I want to see pictures! Are the lanterns going to be in trees, a la Tavern on the Green? You are giving me IDEAS!

The second board was the inspiration for my whole wedding. I fell in love the moment I saw that one!
