Remember way back when when I posted about picnic weddings? Well, Amanda emailed me to tell me all about hers, and now that its said and done she sent in pictures! Amanda and Eddie had a classic, old fashioned church wedding, which was followed by a delightful, budget, picnic reception. I'm so excited to finally be able to share this practical picnic wedding!
They were married in a church in North Hollywood.
The picnic reception took place in on the grounds of the Unitarian Universalist Church Pasadena, and they had blankets for people to chill out on, as well as tables for older guests.
They did their catering through Corner Bakery Cafe, who packed lunches for just $10 a box, which allowed them to invite lots of friends and family.
Congratulations to both Amanda and Eddie! A huge thank you for sharing your delightful day with us.

Oh my gosh it is totally charming, I love it! it looks like a scene from The Wonder Years. Ahh… Only on the West Coast could you actually plan something outside without a rain plan.

Lovely! Having a picnic reception would have been my dream, but on the East Coast it’s simply too risky weatherwise. So I’m doing a reception at a restaurant but will still have a “picnic cocktail” in a park, with vintage picnic baskets full of champagne and nibbles. This way it’s more manageable if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate. I too was inspired by the picnic featured in Real Simple Weddings you once blogged about!
I especially love the bride’s shorter dress, which looks like it’s straight from the ’50s (I say that as a huge compliment).

Very cute. Altho I do have to say if I was a guest and sat on the ground while the groom and bride sat at a sweetheart table, I’d be a little miffed.
I think to embrace the community spirit of the picnic, they should’ve shared a picnic blanket with their guests.
Sweet idea for a budget friendly day, though!

mrs. in may — only on the west coast IN JULY! and we were lucky to some pretty temperate weather rather than a total scorcher!
marie-eve — that’s exactly what i wanted for my dress, and it turned out so well! it was custom-made for me by a friend, based loosely on audrey hepburn’s from funny face!
anonymous — we actually had seat assignments at tables for every guest, but provided blankets for anyone who wanted to sit on the grass — and most people chose that!

So adorable!! The box lunches are fantastic, and the jars of tea and lemonade are so lovely. I love that they managed to do something playful without making it child-like.

This is exactly what I’m planning! My fiancĂŠ’s favorite food is sandwiches and we love going on picnics together so we’re planning a casual afternoon reception. We recently told our families our plan to have blankets to sit on and eat or play dominos afterwards and that idea was not well received. Hopefully our young friends will embrace the idea like people at this wedding did!

I forgot to ask what you have in the boxed lunches? I love the idea of having it all in one little box, but I wasn’t sure if we should have multiple choices or not!

mmm Corner Bakery. We looked into Boudin for a picnic reception too, I love the idea of a packed lunch! SO cute and so cheap!

heather – we customized our boxes based on what corner bakery had to offer. they were totally willing to work with us! we did a choice of three sandwiches (menu options listed on the reply cards – chicken, beef, veggie), with a side of pasta salad, a bag of potato chips, and an apple. normally the boxes would come with a cookie or other sweet inside, but as we also had a dessert buffet and traditional wedding cake, we had them leave those out.

What a great idea! Everyone looks so relaxed. It’s actually quite romantic, too. Perhaps it would also be nice for a beach wedding.

What a fantastic idea – the boxes, the blankets on the grass. It all makes for a perfectly relaxed day where you can concentrate on the real reason for being there, rather than fussing about reception center details. I love it.
