reclaiming wife

The scene: My friend Kate (the first ever reader of this blog) and I are at the gym.

Me: You know, if I could have one vain thing for the wedding, I'd like a really toned back. I like how my back looks when I've been swimming.
Kate: You know, you should really look at The Knot they have really great diet....
Me: (freeze mid lunge and sloooowly rotate my head to fix Kate with a death stare)
Kate: (collapses into a fit of giggles) I'm sorry, I couldn't get through that with a straight face.

The scene: I'm sitting at the table at my in-laws after finishing off dinner, half a loaf of challah, and some tomatoes, working on some grapes with my eyes on a box of cookies. I'm small, but I like to EAT on vacation. And the rest of the time. My father-in-law (I refuse to use the FFL acronym) is eying me with some understandable confusion.

Father In Law: When will you get to that point where you get all bride-crazy and go on a special wedding diet to fit into your dress?
Me: Memmgmmmhghghhmmmmmghghghghhhhm
David: She'll probably just order her dress a size too big, in case she feels like eating extra before the wedding

True.

Great post, actually sounds very much like what Baddie would say about me!

I’ve been meaning to post about this too but my thought doesn’t go much further than “what is with facebook shoving all these diet ads in my face just because my relationship status is set to engaged‽”

    Exactly!

It really bothers me all the brides who start in on, How do I lose weight fast? Or is it safe to lose 10 pounds in a week?

Um you don’t. Unless you want to really screw yourself up.

Trust me no one is gonna notice that you lost a few pounds just before your wedding.

I’d rather happily eat what I love and not get super stressed out becaue I couldn’t fit in an extra hour of exercise every day so I could lose 5 pounds no one even saw.

    Exactly!

I fall into the category of working out a ton more to tone up, but I have also been eating like Michael Phelps!

Ha, ha! This post cracks me up. I’ve had several friends who never went to the gym before they got engaged… and promptly stopped once they were married. If you’re wanting to go the healthy route, do it because you want to make a change in your life for good, not just for one day.

    Exactly!

I also decided to forgo the diet and joined the gym in an attempt to achieve a toned back and upper arms. All I succeeded in achieving was a severely sprained ankle. Good thing I’ll be wearing converse under my dress.

PS: Guilty secret – I’m so glad I’m not the only one pissed about those facebook ads.

    Exactly!

I underwent a bit of a lifestyle change earlier this year that shed 15 pounds and everyone assumed it was for the wedding! No. It wasn’t. It was about getting to a healthy weight for good.

    Meg,
I LOVE this post. It’s hilarious. My wedding isn’t til next August, but I couldn’t stop laughing at the thought. With Rosh Hashanah upon us, and the knowledge that I’m about to eat my body weight in brisket, challah, and gefilte fish, I loved it!

PS: I would love to hear more about the Jewish aspects of your service. WE are having a Jewish ceremony (my fiance is Baha’i, and I am Jewish) but looking to instill a lot of humor, and personality. If you could give me any thoughts, I’d appreciate it.

    Exactly!

    Hey Jill-
Feel free to drop me a line if you’d like. We haven’t started the real planning of the service yet, though we will soon. It’s the one thing I really want to do – instead of feeling like a wedding chore, it feels like a joy!
