I really like the alternatives. I’m in the same boat, want to have 7 girls up there but just hate the idea of it being so big. Can Jennie post her invitation bigger so we can read it? It’s a great idea!

This idea might not work for you, but that doesn't make it a bad idea. That's why it's called a wedding party alternative, there are lots of alternatives. Plus, its not like she's giving her ladies one color to wear, she's giving them a huge range, and they may already own something that fits the bill. Plus, keep in mind, what you see on this blog is just the tip of the iceberg. This is a real person with real friends who has had personal conversations with them about this decision. Just because it's not right for you (fine) doesn't mean that its not
right for her or for other people.

As for "The best part of being a bridesmaid is having a special role during your engagement and on the big day" this women clearly have both. This is just a way to formally honor them.

Keep in mind that what works for one wedding may not work for another. I think the idea is brilliant. Case in point, asking my special ladies to write poetry or such would not work for mine. Perhaps she already took into account that those colors would look great on those ladies, that they probably have something close to that color in that closet. “The best part” isn’t standing by the bride’s side the day of, it is standing by her, period, as clearly these girls have already done.

I’m a little surprised that everyone thinks this is such a good alternative to the traditional bridal party. Of all the things that a bridesmaid gets to do, wearing something (even just a color) of the bride’s choosing is one of the least enjoyable and least meaningful. What if your friend/family member doesn’t have the cash to buy a new dress for your wedding? What if the colors are unflattering on her? The best part of being a bridesmaid is having a special role during your engagement and on the big day, and getting to stand by your side as you wed, not wearing something that matches with the bride’s color palette.

It seems like you could honor your non-bridesmaids in some other way, like giving each one a corsage or asking each one to write a poem that you read at the wedding, that would be a special gift both to you AND to them.

But who cares what shades of pink and peach people pick? That's the whole point. You love your girls, you trust them, you want them to be themselves in a way that honors them. They could show up in a sort-of-peach burlap sack and this idea would still rock your socks off.

As much as Jennie is an awesome graphic designer, this idea isn't about style, it's about love.

Amazing idea, and virtually foolproof! It’s always tough with colors, because people have different ideas of what “shades of pink and peach” should look like.

thanks so much for posting this! I too am juggling the bridesmaids, many dear friends issue, and trying to come up with a good way to include them in a meaningful, heartfelt way. Any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks PW!
