A Good Place To Be

by Meg Keene, Editor-In-Chief

Let me sum up my life* for you right now in a nutshell: Every third second I think about how excited I am to be married. Sock monkey Christmas trees? Excited to be married. Pretty house remodels? Excited to be married. Cute babies? Excited to be married. Pretty plates that are coming in as gifts? Excited to be married. Funny jokes that people tell me? David’s funny! Excited to be married.

Sometimes, when I drift off to sleep I think of the wedding, and my dress, and a toast I might give, and I think about how excited I am for the wedding. But honestly, I have a hard time imagining what the wedding will feel like and I know that however it feels, it will be short. So mostly, I’m just excited about the rest of my life.

Awesome.

*besides the fact that from now until the wedding, I work basically all-the-d*mn-time. No joke.

I think this sounds like a great thing to realise. The wedding is special indeed, but who can live without all the other little things? You'll do great! And maybe it's good to switch off that wedding-radar once in a while? Keep thinking of sock monkies and everything will turn out fine I say.

I'm really excited for you too. You really got your priorities straight! Wedding: fun! Rest of life together: what it's all about.

Yay for you! My brain is similarly kind of excitable right now–it's a very nervous energy, but not nervous in a bad way, just nervous in a "holy crap, married. Married!" way.

Classic case of the perfect match! Like I said "It's always better to want to BE married than to want to GET married"

I agree with everything else everyone has said, but would like to add holy-crap-i-appreciate-the-asterik-about-working.

My fiance and I are working long and hard up to the wedding. I can only get the 2 days off before, and *maybe* one day after the weekend. Friends and family are a bit shocked, I'm going a bit nutty, but I think as long as we have cake and friends and hugs and kisses and we're wed, then I am content, because I'm going to be married, happily.

    Eeeee!

I am in love with this little statement! So true!

My wedding is a week from tomorrow. And I'm feeling HAPPY to BE married. I know the wedding is going to be awesome and a true celebration of joy and love, but what I know in my heart is that the best days are yet to come…

I love this. You should totally be more excited about being married than you are about the wedding. Weddings are great and all… but the marriage is what it's all about.

The others have already said it – looking forward to the wedding? Yep. Excited to be married to him forever? Yes! Damn straight.

I'm so proud of you and of all the women in this community. So often you snap me back at attention and help me maintain perspective. I wish you all the very best life has on offer. I know you will never stop striving for it, never stop believing in it. With tender regard ~ KtX

I love this post, it pretty much sums up how exciting it is to be young and have found the person you will share all of life's upcoming adventures with. Thanks Meg!

One summer day, a couple of years after Fred and I married, I was walking across Sproul Plaza at the University of California. I found myself behind a couple in their late 50's or early 60's. They were walking hand in hand, and it was obvious that they had been doing this for decades. I thought, "I hope Fred and I are like that when we're that age: comfortable with each other and still very much in love."

Well, now *we're* the couple in our late 50's and early 60's. Have the years held challenges? Yes. Has every second been filled with unsurpassed joy? Of course not. Have health issues become more difficult as we age? Yes indeed.

But here we are, close to our 35th anniversary, and we still are in love, happy, very proud of our two girls, and so grateful to be in each others lives. I couldn't ask for much more. And we still hold hands.

While some may even feel they are not that excited about marriage, you on the other hand loves the idea of spending the rest of your life with the man of your dreams. Great for you and good luck with happiness.

And it just keeps getting better! I'm five days out and it's down to thinking about how fun it's going to be every .485 seconds! Have fun! Your spirit is inspiring (:
