Dress, Offered V

Dress, Offered V | A Practical WeddingMichelle’s wedding is coming up tomorrow, and you’re going to love it. Warm, full of family, full of love. But today Michelle is giving away her dress to another member of Team Practical. I love it when you guys do this for each other*. Michelle’s dress is on the traditional side, but it’s also simple, which you know I love. It’s got a train for days, when you could keep or alter. Michelle says this in her email to me:Dress, Offered V | A Practical Wedding“It’s a size 8, I didn’t have it altered at all except to add a bustle. I’m 5’8″ and wore 2″ heels, so it’s pretty long. I’ll include the slip if anyone wants it, although I want to keep the veil. It is pretty dirty** so it’ll need to be cleaned. Josh and I had been talking about getting married for a while when my college roommate got engaged. I went with her to the Filene’s Basement running of the brides in Boston, just to help her out because it can get so crazy. I found this dress for $250 and bought it that day. We got engaged a few months later and I finally got to wear it this past weekend.”Dress, Offered V | A Practical WeddingSo. The giveaway works the way it always does. Leave a comment about why you’d love to wear this dress in the comments. The recipient pays for the shipping, and after the wedding should email Michelle a picture of themselves full of joy in the dress. And as always, I’d love if you considered sending me a picture too (because all of us want to see it). Comments will stay open for a week, or until the recipient becomes really obvious.

Thank you, for all being so kind to each other.

Smooches,
Meg

*I try to limit the dress trades to about one a month, so I can’t do all of them I get, sigh. I usually do them in conjunction with a real wedding or wedding graduate post, if you’re pondering passing your dress along.
**That’s when you know it’s been loved *properly.* Eff this ‘Princesses keep their dresses spotless’ stuff.

I love these exchanges! This is a beautiful one. (I'm not entering, just saying RAH RAH RAH and can't wait for photos.) xo

I love the giant smile on her face in the first photo :)

Firstly, I'd like to say how I literally gasped out loud when I saw this beautiful dress! I've looked a lot online and in magazines but it is the real bride in the real dress that is more impactful than the most experienced model in the most expensive designer gown. A photo of a real woman in real love is provocative and priceless.

I recently became engaged to a my fiancee, Matt, my first boyfriend, the giver of my first kiss and someone I've had the distinct pleasure of dating for almost 5 years. He asked me to marry him on the beach of our childhood church camp. He surprised me with my family, his family, all of our friends and a beautiful ring we picked out together. We are planning our wedding for next August and are currently diving into the endeavor of planning this wedding in the spirit of 'A Practical Wedding', creative, DIY, personal and SANE!

We are young (20 and 21) but have developed a mature and unconditionally loving relationship. They say "Love is patient" and we've been quite patient in waiting for this time of our lives and we are quite excited! Your beautiful dress would be an incredible gift as we are currently working toward our degrees and wishing to begin our marriage debt free. The style of your dress is my dream style, simple, elegant and classic. The size is exact and the dress exquisitely my taste. This kind of generosity is stupefying and I am moved that you would be willing to offer a piece of joy from your own special day with a perfect stranger. I would be honored to wear your dress.

I look forward to reading about your wedding!
    :)

I don't need a dress, but wanted to say how nice that is of her. The wedding is beautiful, and I'm glad they were able to celebrate the happy bits of life despite the sad/hard things going on in their families. Life is never always all or nothing, it's a big mess all at once.

Michelle, How sweet and generous of you to bless Kourtney with such a beautiful dress. I literally gasped out loud, as well, this morning when I learned of your generosity. Your joy and love are evident in the photos of you and your husband. May God bless your marriage.
    Thank you! Tammy (Kourtney's mom)
