I’m Speaking At Alt!

by Meg Keene, Editor-In-Chief

Im Speaking At Alt! | A Practical Wedding
So, I’m thrilled to announce that I am speaking at my very first blog conference ever, Altitude Design Summit. Whee! Alt is a design (and lifestyle) blogging conference that happens in Salt Lake City in January. While I’m clearly on the more (and lifestyle) side of things, hello, we talk about pretty stuff on APW too. Where pretty stuff meets sanity, most particularly.

I’ve been waiting to tell you guys about this speaking gig till I found out what panel I was speaking on, and last week they emailed me to say that I was speaking on the “Building Your Community” panel. Yeah, I’m not even joking. Aprops? And, uh, I have a lot to say on the subject.

This is a big deal for me, because for the last six years or so, I’ve carried around a list of things I’d like to do in my dream job , and “public speaking” has always topped that list. What? I was an award winning parliamentary debater in High School, and then majored in professional theatre. So, of course I want to speak in public. It’s better than chocolate for me, and I’m not even joking. And now I get to do that, starting with Alt!

Two things. One! If you’re coming to Alt, pretty please let me know (and come to the panel). Two! Do we have enough readers in Salt Lake for a brunch meetup? Because, you know, I’m bringing Lauren and Alyssa too… so the whole team will be there, which could be… fun. So if you’re in or near Salt Lake and want to come, leave a comment and we’ll see what we’ve got.

Yay, Meg! And holy crap, what an awesome list of amazing women that was- what a great experience! Trying to brainstorm how to get to Salt Lake City in January…

    • meg

Oh my god come. I’m paying for parts of two different hotel rooms (ok, all of one, half of another) so we could find you a place to stay for sure (even if you have to bring your sleeping bag). There is a posse of us going to um… hang out with cool ladies. So come and HANG OUT ALREADY.

      • Alyssa

This is going to be enlightening and informative during the day….and then one giant slumber party at night.

  • Maria

Congrats! What a perfect topic, you’re going to rock their world! I’m in SLC, I heart you guys, I’d love to do a meet-up!

  • http://nickandnoragettingmarried.wordpress.com/ Annie

Congratulations! That’s really exciting–and how awesome is it that you like public speaking? I get terrified at the very thought, so I can only imagine that you’re a total rock star.

I’m in SLC and would love to get together. Happy to host at my house or recommend a meeting location. YAY!

    • meg

Oh my god, I din’t know you were in Salt Lake. Also, what happend to your gravitar? Anyway, you’re in charge. How about Saturday brunch? The conference is over by then, so we’ll be totally free. Want to brainstorm, email me, and then start a Facebook discussion to plan?

      • http://lilapuppy.blogspot.com Meghan

YAY! I am happy to be in charge. I never had a gravitar so maybe you are confusing me with someone else. No matter.

        • meg

No, well, you did on blogger and I think you should migrate it over. It’s less confusing that way. CHOP CHOP.

          Bossy :)

I’ve been told I’m good at public speaking, but I haaaate it. Of course, I take advantage of opportunities to do so whenever I get the chance, because it’s an important skill. I wish I could be like the people who adore it, because I really want to love it!

PS – good luck! :) (Not that you’ll need it.)
