Lyn & Chad | A Practical Wedding

The Info—Venue: Santa Barbara Historical Museum, Santa Barbara, CA. Dress: Saja Wedding, Necklace: Button Soup Jewelry, Shrug & Shawl: Sweet Knitting, Hair Fascinator: Sweet Grass Mill Suit: A no-brand number from a suit outlet in downtown Los Angeles. Photographer: Christina Richards Weddings (APW Sponsor).

Other cool stuff we should know about: Our peanut butter dessert cookies were stamped with the words “KICK ASS” and “HELL YEAH.” Our grand entrance was to Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” and we heightened the effect by wearing mirrored aviator sunglasses.

One sentence sum up of the wedding vibe: An outdoor celebration of love and community underscored by food, friends, family, fun, and booze.

Favorite thing about the wedding: I was going through these questions on the phone with my husband and when I got to this one, he immediately answered “Marrying the person I love.” Which is an entirely awww-inducing, APW-appropriate response. And here I was trying to think of details. Anyway, my answer: the moment I looked down during the ceremony and saw that our officiant-friend had accessorized his suit with bare feet. That’s the moment when I finally let everything go and thought, okay. Okay. Let’s just sit back and see what happens from here.

Yes, yes yes! So in love with this new feature!

I have such a warm, calming afterglow from looking at these photos. Thanks for sharing.

  • http://jolynn.wordpress.com Jo

    Yay Lyn!! :D

This is absolute perfection. I kicked on the song and let this be my moment of peace today. I was teared up and just totally loving this. The cookies are (to borrow a phrase) kick-ass, and this looks like a party I would want to be at! Also, Lyn, you’re f*cking gorgeous. The look on your face during so many of these caught me right away.

    • Mallory

Yes! I love that there is a soundtrack for reading!

      • http://bunniesnbeagles.blogspot.com Ms. Bunny

It was the most perfect soundtrack.

  • http://www.fancynotion.blogspot.com/ Kerry

I really don’t know how Lyn manages to work, write a blog, or even successfully get up and brush her teeth in the morning.

For if I had these pictures I would surely do nothing but stare at them all day, and turn into a puddle of ooze. Beautiful.

  • anonymous

Gorgeous. Perfect. And where can I find those cookie stamps?!?!

    • Other Katelyn

The cookies photo set me off on a fruitless Google hunt– such a great idea!

    • Cass

How smart! I wish I had thought of it for my own wedding!

    • SpaceElephant

I think Williams-Sonoma has cookie stamps where you can put in whatever letters you want to make whatever words you want, then stamp onto a cookie?

      There we go!

      • http://anotherdamnlife.com Lyn

Those look pretty close! I must confess that I don’t know exactly what was used on the cookies. In a twist of wedding magic, Jess of Bicoastal Bride (now Two Geeks in Love) offered to make me some desserts. I KNOW RIGHT. She’s responsible for these delicious peanut butter cookie beauties — we just came up with what we wanted stamped in them.

  • http://justneedthisspace.wordpress.com ddayporter

ok whoa. this was amazing. soundtrack suggestion was genius.

    HEARTS AND FLOWERS.

  • Sarah

“Love is like a bottle of gin, but a bottle of gin is not like love.” PERFECT.

I, too, love the new feature. :)

  • http://beckybopwrites.blogspot.com/ Becky

Love it! This wedding looks like possibly the most fun I’ve ever seen on a wedding blog. And now I really want to make some peanut butter cookies with something more interesting than fork tines for the stamp.

    • meg

I’m more interested than drunken fun than crafts.

  • Moz

All of you who aren’t reading Lyn are missing out.

I love that pic of her taking photos from the front of her own ceremony. Yeah!

    • http://abasketcase.blogspot.com Basketcase

I just want to know how on earth I missed that she had a new blog!
I must not have read her wrap-up blog on another damn wedding…

Main bummer is that blogger cant pick up a feed from another damn life. Gutted.

  • http://hitchdied.wordpress.com Robin HitchDied

As much as I love this new feature and love this particular post, I feel slightly deprived of another opportunity to read Lyn’s amazofabulous writing. Go read her blog, people!

  • http://ejsisme.blogspot.com Emily

    Yay! Practical wedding porn! Gorgeous.

  • http://blametheweatherman.wordpress.com Melissa

Beastie Boy’s Sabotage PLUS mirrored aviators? Love.

    • AH

I went and looked up that song once I read it, and as soon as I heard it I laughed out loud and thought “Hell yea, I want to be that cool when I get married.”

      • http://blametheweatherman.wordpress.com Melissa

        Dude – mission freaking accomplished.

We came in to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Jump on It. Not as cool – but hella fun

        • http://anotherdamnlife.com Lyn

No way, Sir Mix-A-Lot is amazing — AND cool. But the thing is, it’s not about BEING cool — it’s about just doing what you love. We had some nerves about the choices we made — what would the old folks think about a song that compares love to gin? What would people think of a Beastie Boys grand entrance? What what WHAT? But we did it anyway, because it felt… organic, for lack of a better word. It just felt like US. Doing what you love makes you excited, and the excitement is contagious. Even if our guests wouldn’t have chosen those same elements for themselves, they still ended up being happy and excited for us, because they recognized US in our own wedding.

  • Cass

I love this new feature. And if I had to pick a reason, I think it would be for something I read in the comments of a post months ago: Before the wedding, all you see in wedding photos are the things – the dress, the cake, the favors, the flowers. After the wedding, all you see are the smiling faces and the expressions on peoples’ faces.
Now that I am 4 weeks post-wedding, this rings completely true!

    • meg

Well, I mean. This feature is kind of edited for faces, not for stuff. So it’s not just you (though that is totally true).

      • http://www.ravensflightsoffancy.com Raven

I didn’t identify that this post was edited for faces until you articulated it, but I really dig that. I think that is part of what I love so much about this post/wedding. Sometimes it is easy to get swept up in all the pretty little details when planning a wedding. There are plenty of great details in this one as well (like the cookies and sunglasses), but it is so nice to see and be reminded that the real beauty of the day is the love and joy that people are sharing.
Also I love the soundtrack. I hope that a soundtrack becomes part of other future Wordless Wedding posts as well!

  • http://bunniesnbeagles.blogspot.com Ms. Bunny

Looking at these stunning pictures gives me a small taste of how this day felt. I really wish I had been there!

And I must also agree that everyone should be reading Lyn’s blog. Do it!

  • http://nighttraintodetroit.com amy

I LOVE THIS BRIDE’S HAIR! And this new feature!

  • http://loveyourway.net lizzie

OMYGOD I LOVE LYN & CHAD. YAYYYYY. their wedding was STUNNING.

  • Denzi

I had a really, really lovely moment when I reached the lyric “Or turn cartwheels in your best suit” right as I scrolled down to the man tossing the little kid up in the air. Perfection.

  • http://www.bridesanstulle.com Sharon

What a lovely new feature! (I especially like that there’s a soundtrack suggestion, Meg. :)) And Lyn is beyond fabulous and everyone should be reading her blog!

    • meg

That’s Lyn’s suggestion, obviously. I made her pick the song!

  • http://emiliajanephotography.com Emilia

I am in LOVE with this feature!!!!!

  • Stephasaurus

Oh my gosh, I love the song you picked as the soundtrack. I love the pictures too, but! The song…it blew my mind.

  • JEM

Love this feature!!! <3 times a million

“I looked down during the ceremony and saw that our officiant-friend had accessorized his suit with bare feet. That’s the moment when I finally let everything go and thought, okay. Okay. Let’s just sit back and see what happens from here.”

    :)

  • Katie

The cookies… Sigh… Too effin’ awesome for words.

Kick ass? HELL YEAH! (you are.) :-D

  • Sarah

I didn’t think I was going to love this new feature but I confess I was totally wrong! It’s just gorgeous, and I love that it comes with a music suggestion. I read it on the way to work Friday morning and can’t think of a better way to face a day in the office than with these pictures and Sabotage running through my head!

  • Sara

Meg, THANK YOU for not making this feature specifically a Wordless Wedding Wednesday, which might have been just too cutsey for APW.

  • http://thethirtysomethingbride.com The Thirty-Something Bride

Hooray for Lyn + Chad. Love her in a way that is bordering on creepy, obsessive and slightly stalker-ish.

  • suzanna

LOVE this new feature. Every time there are pretty things (venues, dresses, etc.) on APW, I wish there was an “info” bit, and now shazzam! It’s here. Love the soundtrack, as well. Thanks, ladies! These are going to be fun!

  • http://www.hollygardner.com Holly

LOVE this feature and this wedding. What a stylish bride and awesome wedding. Seriously love this!

  • http://www.3upadventures.com Beth

Favorite: the dancing little girl. She reminds me of my (2nd) cousin Isabelle, age 8, at my sister’s wedding: “My mom’s leaving but I’m not. I like dancing with you.”
