So this week, we’ve alluded to a secret project we were working on at Yay New York. And to wrap up the week, I’m honored to present it to you. This is the trailer for the documentary short Eric Brown of the The Media Playground is working on about marriage equality, the party we threw, and the community you guys are.
Because the point of the event wasn’t just to get two couples married, or to get 150 people together in a room and have a party. The point was to take what happened in that room and spread the message. The message that, as Ang put it to me earlier this week, “Love is love, and don’t be a dick.” Or, more eloquently if less succinctly, there is nothing more beautiful than two people loving each other and the world honoring that love.
So please, share this video. Put it on your blog. Link to it on Twitter. Put it on Facebook. Share the message with people who aren’t part of this community, or who aren’t sure how they feel about marriage equality yet. And I’ll let you know when the full documentary short is done. Of course.
APW’s LAMBDA Legal drive is going to be open for the next two weeks, as I know some of you want some time to plan on slightly more significant gifts. This is very, very cool :-) Wish I could have been there. From all the pictures, it looks like the weddings and the party were just amazing. More than that, I love the message of equality. All the energy and love that you, the staff, the vendors, and the APW community brought to Yay NY was just such an incredible way to spread the message!!! Congrats and THANKS for pulling it off! This was definitely a big step in the right direction.

I’ve been a bit of a lurker on this site, since for a while I was in the pre-engagement stage. But I have to say that every post having to do w/ this event has really emotionally touched me. Right now I’m at my desk at work crying, in a really really good way. :) Thank you!

This is amazing. What I love about this video is that it’s a reminder of how much APW just “gets it”. Meg and the community just get what it means to work, what it means to love, what it means to gay couples to hear the words “by the power vested in me by the state of New York”, what it means to feel excited for the wedding but so crazily beside yourself about the MARRIAGE, and what it means to have a community of support around you as you begin a life together. My partner and I are getting married in October, and I’m just not sure we would have made it to this point without the grace of APW. So thanks.

Awesome, just…awesome. Both weddings gave me chills and totally choked me up. What an amazing display of love, community, and bliss. Thank you for sharing all of this with us-It feels good to be a part of an online community where we are forward thinkers, and, as it was put in the video, “cheerleaders for love”. Love it!

I am not that person who cries at those entries where half the comments are something like “I was bawling at my desk at work!” But I watched that video and teared up in the chem resource center at school. I fucking love equality.

I snuck in a little phrase for marriage equality in my Catholic wedding service this coming Saturday. It’s subtle, but somehow makes me feel better that I’m acknowledging that the opportunity of getting married for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation,WILL happen in the future, on my own wedding day.
