*This is a paid post from an APW Sponsor*
I met Allison, of Allison Andres Photography in the San Francisco Bay Area and Napa Valley, at the very first APW book club. She seemed awesome, she had a great tattoo (“be someone you love”), and she’d been reading the site forever. She mentioned that she was getting her wedding photography business off the ground, and I did my normal stamp on the ground, insist that she invest in herself dance. And then she did some thinking, and emailed me that she’d had a realization that it was time to invest in her dreams. THAT I could meet halfway. I basically sponsored her first sponsored post because I had a gut-level feeling that Team Practical would make the dream of one of their own a reality.
And what a year it’s been. Allison Andres Photography has grown like crazy. Her portfolio has grown by leaps and bounds, and her photographs are crisp, clear, and emotional. She’s worked with tons of you, she’s loved it, and she wants to thank you… for the fun, for the investment in her, for the way you built her business, and the way you made her grow. Oh, and did I mention, her rates for weddings start at just $1,400 (a crazy deal in the Bay Area). But enough blathering. Here is Allison herself:
There is a stigma in the “Wedding World” that photographers are too serious. We’re just here to take your picture, overly Photoshop your face, and hold your photos hostage until you buy a million-and-one products.
Of course I’m going to take your picture; I’ll probably take hundreds of pictures of you in six hours. But I can guarantee that I’ll be laughing, smiling and dancing while I do it. I might even cry during your first dance if it is a song that I really love. I can’t help it, I just love weddings.
I often am asked what my “vision” is. Simply put, I want to make you smile and I want to make you feel great about yourself. I’d like to think that I take emotionally honest photographs, and I have a hard time explaining that philosophy, but I think it’s best summed up by a wonderful client who said, “I have never felt more beautiful than when you took my picture.”
APW couples are really some of my favorite people. They are fun, inventive, gracious, and smart. I know that when I walk into an initial meeting with a couple, I will be greeted with a smile and positive attitude. APW couples know that a vendor isn’t just a company they pay to do “as they wish.” APW couples understand that vendors are individuals who are hired to make you happy while doing what they love. These couples always treat me with kindness, respect, and I know that they trust me to do my job and make them happy.
For the past year I have advertised for APW, and in that time, I have seen my business flourish into something I never could have imagined. Every month I have been in some of funniest/craziest situations of my life! In March, I attended a rainy-day elopement in SF City Hall and cried during the vows. In April, a bride and groom decided to “party boy” me while I was in the middle of the dance floor. In May, a baby deer wandered into the reception site. In July, I danced with a bride to N*SYNC’s “Bye, Bye, Bye” (she knew all of the dance moves) and in August, the CAL marching band surprised the couple’s guests with a few songs and sweet moves. (I was also bit by a dog, but my assistant says it’s because dogs love Vegans, so maybe that was a good thing?)
I’d like to thank APW couples for taking my baby business and making it thrive. Without your trust and confidence in me, I would not be where I am right now, writing about the wonderful year I’ve had with the beautiful APW couples that have hired me. I am truly grateful and am offering 10% off to any and all APW readers for whatever session they book. This discount never expires as long as you mention you found me on APW!
And with that, off you go Bay Area and Napa Valley couples to browse Allison Andres Photography. I can’t wait to hear about all the fun you have together!
