One week ago David and I joyfully welcomed a baby boy into the world. The birth process had complications, but we’re all home now, healing and healthy. More than anything, we’re feeling over-the-moon happy to have all three of us together.
At some point, I hope to have some words to wrap around the experiences of the last nine months: a hard pregnancy, a complicated but wonderful birth, traumatic first hours, the joy of new motherhood, and the way marriage has kept me afloat through all of it. Till then, I’ll say that motherhood changes everything (but you’ve heard about that part) and also nothing. We’re still here. Showering and reading the New York Times, just blearily and with more tiny cuddles.
I’ll leave you in the talented and capable hands of Maddie and the team. For now I’m going to spend time with my two guys: one big, one very small.

Meg, I’m so excited for you & your family. I also can’t wait to read your thoughts on motherhood and the way your life has and hasn’t changed. You’re an inspiration.

Congratulations, Meg! I’m so excited for you, and your little family. Those first weeks with a newborn are intense, the highs are high and the lows are low. Enjoy the nesting in, release all expectations, and enjoy those little snuggles!

Congratulations! (my due date is exactly one week from today… so this is the period of must-be-ready-to-go-at-any-moment, or it could be multiple weeks from now, when every weird bodily sensation gets over-interpreted as, ‘is this it? is labor starting??’)

I didn’t realize how very happy this news would make me, but when I saw those little feet and knew what I was about to read, my whole heart felt warm and my tummy felt full of butterflies. To Meg, who is a stranger but very much not a stranger, a heartfelt congratulations to your baby family, now with baby.

Oh so many congratulations! After a rough patch with family (my baby family and family of origin) and going through the emotions that comes with paying a lot of money to celebrate said families with a wedding, reading this and seeing those nummy perfect feet gave me the wind in my sails to keep going, and the breeze of it has cooled my cheeks and reminded me to be so so happy for the journey.
I texted my partner to read it immediately upon reading “marriage has kept me afloat…”, because we both need that nice reminder of all of the beautiful things about marriage.
and also, gah to have two boys to cuddle up to! i am so so happy for Meg, and thank you for being brave enough to share with us brief tidibits of the not so Pampers commercial aspects of it. My doctor has warned me that pregnancy will be an unusually hard process for me, so it’s nice to feel not alone, no matter the scale of the experience.
