Other cool stuff we should know about: We got married at my parents’ house in small-town Ontario, where I grew up. It was great to have a mix of old friends and neighbours, family from Britain, and good friends (and thesis supervisors) from Toronto all together in one place. Luckily we found an officiant who was totally open to our ideas for a secular ceremony; he even let us substitute W.H. Auden for Jesus in the text.
Everything about our wedding was a little “imperfect,” from our community-hall chairs, to our ceremony sing-a-long, to our multi-vendor catering (and our servers—the high school wrestling team!). We were worried all along that it wouldn’t be what people expected in a wedding, but on the day we just felt surrounded by so much love. Our imperfect wedding turned out to be perfect for us!
Favorite thing about the wedding: Everyone rocking out to “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

There are so many gorgeous red wedding dresses on APW lately! My wedding dress ship has already sailed, but I really want to rush out and purchase a fabulous bright red party dress because all these ladies are absolutely crushing it in red!

I also wore a red dress to my wedding (I was the second Wordless Wedding last week) and I’m so pleased to see another bold woman rocking this look. Red is the colour of passion and who the hell isn’t passionate on their wedding day!? Congratulations to you both – may you enjoy may many happy years together.

Absolutely radiant, gorgeous wedding. I just love the photo of the groom chilling on the couch with a calm serenity. Your dress is amazing! You both look sincerely relaxed.
And yay Bunner’s! They are also my chosen vegan / gluten-free dessert caterer. You have excellent taste! ;)

OMGish!! THANK YOU for linking to Bunners! I have been looking all over the GTA for a bakery that could do the wedding pies, pastries etc for our wedding day so that myself and a bunch of our guests can actually eat the dessert table with out becoming sick!! (we`ve got two gluten allergies, one is almost celiac, lactose allergy and a severe egg allergy attending our wedding next fall). WOO WHOOO! I knew there was a reason I stalk this site!

Wedding pinatas? Guestbook cats? OH HALE YES. Additional shallowness: your henna looks amazing! And I’m super curious what Auden you used and what the song was for the ceremony sing-a-long.

Could you explain the ceremony sing-a-long? I’m so intrigued, and I’ve been thinking about how to get everyone to sing together at our wedding.

It’s sad we do “worry about people’s expectations” when it comes to our wedding day. I find that to be my biggest concern.
I love how you broke tradition with your dress and seeing him beforehand. Let’s get real here, some wedding traditions are just so silly!
So modern and admirable. Good for you!
