reclaiming wife

One sentence sum up of the wedding vibe: Casual, outdoorsy, and sincere.

The Info—Photographer: Jesse Holland (APW Sponsor) / Ceremony Venue: The Narrows, Zion National Park / Reception Venue: Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort / Ashlee’s Hiking Dress: Midwest Sports / Ashlee’s Wedding Dress: Galina from David’s Bridal / Ashlee’s Hiking Shoes: REI / Ashlee’s Reception Shoes: Rainbow Sandals / Wedding Poster: Stacy Tarver / Bridal Party Sashes: Maud Moulle / Homemade Mixers at the Reception: Kim Peters / Invitations: Steve Jensen

Other cool stuff we should know about: Our ceremony took place in the middle of a canyon, next to a river. In order to beat the tourist crowds, we made our guests get up and be at the entrance to the hike by 7:30 am (meaning many had to leave by 6:30 am). All of our guests arrived on time and were ready and willing to jump in the cold river in order to make the trek to the ceremony site.

My uncle officiated the ceremony. He is someone who has watched us grow as a couple and is an important mentor to us both. Our mothers both gave very touching readings during the ceremony. We also had a variety of friends and family help us pull together the many details that made our wedding so special, including a wedding poster, the sashes worn by the bridal party, the home-made mixers used at the reception, and the invitations. Our wedding took the entire day (the reception ended at 11:00 pm) and we couldn’t have been more honored or grateful to all the amazing people that made it out and made it happen.

Favorite thing about the wedding: Sharing our special and adventurous day with our closest family and friends!

I love it! Tennis dresses for the bride and wedding party? So perfect. The river shots look so fun. Plus, then you got the whole day to hang out before the reception! Nice!

This is gorgeous. Love the happiness that’s so evident on your faces. I’ve been looking at a few wedding venues that are “non-traditional.” Any tips for taking the road less traveled?

Simply beautiful! What a fantastic idea, and major kudos for making your wedding day exactly what the two of you wanted. It doesn’t get much more creative and loving than a 7:30am hike through a cold river!

Are all of your friends and family adventurous or did this take some convincing?? I’d love to do something similar and think we could get everyone on board except for Grama….

This may be the first wedding I’ve ever seen where everyone is MORE dressed up for the reception than the ceremony and I’m LOVING IT.

So much love for 1) wedding hike! 2) making people work for the ceremony 3) that owl tattoo!

I have been considering a back tattoo, because, well, I like my back and I like how back tattoos look. This photo shoot did nothing to dissuade me from that idea.

I get totally thrilled about very few collections of wedding pictures. This one, I LOVE.
