Other cool stuff we should know about: The beach wedding was going to happen, rain or shine, and it rained—hard! Friends were sent to town to buy as many umbrellas as they could find. The bride was ushered in on a boat, while the groom and guests waited on the beach. The ceremony was short, sweet, and sometimes funny. It was very personal as it was written together with the bride and groom’s BFF, who ordained the ceremony as well. The vows were super personal, handwritten notes of promise. Friends played and sang “Sea of Love,” and another friend read “Song of the Open Road,” by Walt Whitman.

The reception was confetti filled! The food was all done up potluck style and served with nine King Salmons caught by the groom. Not to mention a gorgeous cheese and cookie spread! Wedding favors doubled as centerpieces; dainty bud vases were collected from thrift stores, wrapped in a satin ribbon with a tag, and stuck with one carnation each. A friend made the cake. There was a man-made photo booth, and the DJ played dance hits until well after 1:00am. The floor was packed! It was simply perfect!

Favorite thing about the wedding: FRIENDS and Family!!!! The turnout was incredible. Smiles and laughter filled the room!

This wedding makes my gray drizzly northwest heart so happy.

Also, the confetti, in part because the contract with our otherwise fairly laid-back venue has a giant “NO CONFETTI” clause.

I know few of us would wish for rain on our wedding day, but I have to admit to finding rainy nuptials especially beautiful and romantic. A friend got married in a hurricane (literally: 100 mph+ winds) in 2011. My mom and I were her photographers and, despite everything, the whole day was just . . . lovely. A quarter of the confirmed guests didn’t show, the vehicles got all switched around, we had to shoot their outdoor portraits under umbrellas . . . but they were so happy, just like Laura and Maxwell, and that’s really all that matters. Lovely photos of a gorgeous day!

I love all the bright and vibrant colors in this wedding! The pinwheel arch and the (unexpected) barrage of big colorful umbrellas were festive and lovely.
