Five Reasons You Want To Hire Emily Takes Photos For Your San Francisco City Hall Wedding | A Practical Wedding

Emily of Emily Takes Photos is one of our favorite-ever APW advertisers. I’m allowed to play favorites and tell you that because as of this month, Emily has been advertising with APW for five years (she’s one of our first-ever advertisers). And, also as of this month, she’s leaving the APW team after a three-year stint as our advertising manager. The APW team loves her and wants to squeeze her. Plus, we’re pretty sure everyone in the Bay Area probably should hire her as their wedding photographer (whether or not you squeeze her is up to you).

Emily recently shifted her focus from shooting big weekend weddings to shooting a lot of San Francisco City Hall elopements, and honestly? Her pictures alone are worth eloping to San Francisco for. But Emily is still taking a limited number of 2014 weddings. Specifically, she’s taking two more 2014 weddings. (But she told me that for the right people, she might take three or four weddings.) So I’m going to let you guys fight it out. (Because seriously: you want her. Her photos are amazing, and girlfriend takes customer service to the next level. And by next level, I mean she sends you presents.) While those of you with bigger 2014 weddings are fighting it out, I’m going to give you five reasons you should hire Emily to be your San Francisco City Hall wedding photographer.

One: Emily is your San Francisco city hall expert

Emily literally wrote the book for APW on how to get married at San Francisco City Hall. She knows everything about everything: from the judges’ personalities, to the technical details, to where to get the best photos. Particularly how to get the best shots. Emily knows all the gorgeous areas, and how to take photos in them quickly.

On a more technical note, Emily’s knowledge of city hall and photography is astounding. She knew every nook and cranny in city hall that would make for a beautiful wedding (or any, really) portrait, politely scooted us from spot to spot to maximize the variation of our photos, and provided a very light-hearted and friendly sense of humor to help ease our pre-wedding nerves.

Two: You’re basically hiring MacGyver as your photographer

You know that efficient, unicorn photographer who knows all the rules, is a planner and a photographer in one, responds to emails quickly, and can MacGyver the shit out of any of your wedding problems on the day of? That’s Emily. For realz. She’ll even do your makeup in a pinch (shhh, don’t tell her I told you that).

Emily is also amazing to work with, and is a great presence at a wedding. Along with wrangling folks into pictures smoothly and efficiently, she stepped in to help with a variety of non-photographer tasks, including getting a very important person into a very tight dress.

Three: No bullshit pricing

With three different packages specifically for couples getting married at San Francisco City Hall, Emily’s city hall elopement pricing starts at a super affordable $500, and she lays out exactly what’s included. Her basic wedding package starts at $3,800. She’ll also work with you to tailor any package to your wedding. No hidden fees, no bullshit. (Plus, rumor has it she’s been known to send her clients candy. Mmm, candy.)

Out of all the choices we made for our wedding, choosing Emily as our photographer was probably the best one. She is very professional, answers emails quickly, and is easy to work with. The packages she offers are super comprehensive so you don’t have to worry about any additional costs.

Four: She plays well with others

Emily feels like an old friend. In fact, she’s been known to say, “I like APW readers because they are instant best friends.” She will totally fit in with your guests. If it’s just you and no guests, you’ll still feel like you’ve got an old friend witnessing, supporting, and cheering you on.

We had only a few criteria for a photographer, but the most important one by far was that they would have to be someone we could see ourselves inviting to the wedding as a friend and guest. We knew Emily was the one within the first few email exchanges.

Five: Emily makes you feel good, in addition to looking good

Whether it’s distracting you with a joke or story or acting ridiculous behind the camera, Emily makes it so whatever you do in FRONT of the camera seems totally normal. She doesn’t just make you look good on the outside; she makes you feel good on the inside.

Emily is simply amazing. Throughout our planning process, she was extremely thoughtful and sweet. She has a way of putting you at ease in front of the camera, since it doesn’t always feel natural to have someone snapping photos of you making out and stuff.

So go hire Emily of Emily Takes Photos now. Reserve her for your San Francisco City Hall wedding, or nab her for one of her last big wedding dates of 2014. Either way, you’ll be so glad you did. Give her a squeeze for us, won’t you?
