Other Cool Stuff we should know about

The most important thing to us about the wedding was that our guests would be comfortable. That’s why we chose to have the wedding at a cozy place where the ceremony, reception, and lodging were all together. After the reception, everyone went back to their rooms, changed into comfortable clothes, and came back to the lodge for a campfire, s’mores, and sangria. It was the perfect way to wind down after a very exciting day.

Also, our photographer was the best. I read on APW early on that the most important part in choosing a photographer is choosing someone that you like. SO TRUE. We didn’t realize that we’d spend more time with the photographer than anyone else on the day of the wedding—and we laughed the whole day. He made it so fun. There was a point in the wedding planning process when I thought, “Is this photography thing really worth it?” Looking at the photos make me feel so, so, happy, and remembering all the fun we had is the best.

Favorite Thing about the wedding

Having all of our favorite people in the world in one room. With balloon animals.

Carole Ann, Matt is photographing my wedding in April! I love your photos – especially the one of the two of you under the umbrella. He showed that to us when we met with him and it’s one of the things that drew me to his work! How wonderful to see that photo here on APW! Congrats!

What are they doing with the rocks in the bowl?

Also, those last two pictures… SWOON.

    • Lynsey

Yes! Please tell us more about the rocks!

We did a stone ceremony! Everyone attending held on to a smooth rock during the ceremony, and, when prompted by our officiant, made a wish/blessing for our marriage. We collected the stones in baskets and put them into a bowl together while my brother and sister-in-law sang. It was our version of a unity candle/sand ceremony, but we liked how everyone attending was a part of it, and how the rocks maintain their individuality even when they’re collected together. That’s how we feel about our marriage – not losing ourselves in it, but coming together to be both two “I’s” and a “we.” It also gave us an opportunity to interact with our guests during the ceremony, which was fun. The stones are now in our living room, and every once in a while we’ll walk by and mix ‘em up a little!

How is the umbrella photo done? Are you holding a light? Is there a light in the umbrella. Inquiring minds want to know!

Something about the picture in the wheat (?) field kills me – I think it’s the way he is holding her – you can just feel the love. (sorry that is cheesy, but really I just LOVE that picture).

    • vegankitchendiaries

      Agree! That pic is EVERYTHING!

Woo, another Rhode Island bride here! I’m getting married in May and Whispering Pines was one of our top venue choices. Your wedding looks like pure fun! Congratulations.

I can attest to the fact that this was pretty much the best wedding ever: a beautiful celebration that perfectly reflected the attitudes of bride and groom and where everyone was treated as family. Love you guys!

Man that circle bunting is adorable! So is the tiny tiny suit and the tiny tiny socks. And I love the colored sash for the reception!

“Everyone had a massive sixty minutes of panic when our officiant showed up nearly an HOUR late. We almost had to commission my uncle to A-line Wedding Dressesdo a mock-ceremony. Luckily the guy finally appeared, just minutes before I was set to walk down the aisle.”
