Introducing: The APW Plus Size Dress Boutique

You asked, we couldn't help but answer

Introducing: The APW Plus Size Dress Boutique | A Practical Wedding

When we announced our new APW Dress Boutiques the other week, the response was overwhelming. But there was one item missing: a plus size dress boutique. Originally our plans were that plus size dresses would be intermingled with the rest of the dresses and sorted by price. But after your (smart, awesome) feedback, it became clear to us that doing it that way was a waste of your time. Because thanks to the fashion industry for refusing to model most plus-size dresses on actual plus-size women, we were going to have to click on every dress in the store in order to figure out which ones were available in a broader range of sizes. Boo.

Bringing it, for Size 14 and up

Today I’m delighted to announce a brand new Plus-Size Boutique in the APW Dress Boutiques. Here’s what you can expect from this shop:

  • Dresses in a range of sizes, from 14–24 (and up if available). And we promise not to put just a bunch of size 14 dresses in there and call it a day.
  • Dresses priced up to $2,000 (though most of them are closer to the $500 and under range).
  • Dresses that meet the same standard of style (um, hot) as the rest of our boutiques.

Now if the Fashion Industry could also bring it?

The fashion industry has not fully caught up to the fact that plus-size women have just as much interest in fancy dresses (that don’t suck) as everyone else. Maybe even more interest. But we get it. So even though the landscape isn’t as robust with options as we’d like, we’re still scouring to find you the best there is available. Just click here for weekly updates with the newest inventory from around the web.

And if you’ve got a lead on a hot plus-size wedding dress, just head over to our Facebook page and post a link there. It may just end up in our boutique (or better yet, on someone’s back).

The Best of the Rest…

And for all you ladies not looking for plus-size dresses, remember to check out our other boutiques:

We update them pretty much daily, because… wedding dress shopping, y’all. It’s the best—particularly when you’re pretending. Happy dress (and occasional pants) browsing.

I love ASOS because they have plus sizes with ACTUAL PLUS SIZE MODELS in them, and the clothes look HOT and not at all dowdy.

Awesome! I ordered my dress a few months ago from Trashy Diva, size 18. My particular dress isn’t in your boutique, but I can vouch for their quality! (I wish you had this up and running when I was dress shopping – SO nice to see models modelling larger dresses all in one spot!)

  • Lily

    Also petites please?

OMG, this is EXACTLY what I need. EXACLTY!

  • Kara E

    Yay!

By the way, if anyone is in Minnesota (or anywhere nearby), the Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul has DOZENS of larger sizes to try on. So nice to be able to try things on in person too. My dress (purchased 3 months before my wedding) was a sample from there.

Gorgeous and THANK YOU! I wish I could have a dress do-over now!!

I didn’t see them mentioned but Kiyonna has some of the best dresses for plus-size ever. Wrap dresses, ruched, knits, lace maxis etc…
They also have wedding dresses all of them less than $500: http://www.kiyonna.com/plus-size-clothing/Bridal_Boutique.html

Love it, well done! A few of the (ModCloth) dresses I tried on are in your boutique, and also the one I chose. How exciting! :)

For those in Michigan: Bombshell Bridal in St. Clair Shores, MI, (suburb of Detroit) exclusively carries dresses in sizes 16-30. That’s where we found my fiancee’s dress.
It’s gorgeous. I cried when she tried it on. Partly because we’d been to so many crappy stores, including one with a sales girl that held up a size 14 in front of her and said “Just imagine!” Um, no.
