A Pop-Up Wedding in Sante Fe

Airstream trailer + BBQ + Cate Blanchett = Awesome

Katie, Transcriptionist & Kenn, Journalist

One sentence sum-up of the wedding vibe: A completely relaxed, loving, supportive day surrounded by amazing people with a mild Dr. Strangelove theme thrown in for good measure.

Other Cool Stuff We Should Know About

Cate Blanchett was at our wedding. Well, Tiny Cate was. My brother and I started hiding a small picture of Cate Blanchett’s face in odd places around the house when he was home for the summer, and it became a fierce competition to see who could find the best hiding place. My brother ended the summer on a high note with the best one. I couldn’t let it go and decided to put Tiny Cate in a handkerchief with my husband’s ring and put it in my brother’s pocket, so when it was time for the ring exchange, my brother would find it… but wouldn’t really be able to react to it the way he wanted to. I have to say, I won the Tiny Cate Challenge. Also, the entire day was fantastic from beginning to end and this was mostly due to Emily and Ian and their mad photography and Pop-Up Wedding skills. No pressure for us, and the details that went into the day were outstanding. We want to get divorced so we can do it all over again.

Favorite thing about the wedding

There was an Airstream trailer and a vintage school bus. Seriously. It doesn’t get any cooler than that.

This is awesome and lovely and looks like it was so much fun! Congrats!

  • Erin

Please tell me there’s a How We Did It coming! I need to know the contents of those pamphlets!

    • vegankitchendiaries

I also would LOVE the details of a How We Did It! This looks so much like what I envision for my upcoming wedding it’s eerie! We’re calling ours a ‘micro-wedding’ rather than a pop-up but it’s the same kind of feel… except with a Pacific Northwest flavour! This is SO inspiring (and calming!) to see that it can be done and it can be amazing! I’m so in love with this red cup wedding in the desert I WANT TO MARRY IT!

      • Lawyerette510

“micro-wedding” I love that idea and phrase!

the comments are closed on the thread from yesterday or whenever – wanted to say your many-hour garland does at least look rad!

          Ha! CHEERS!

Hi Erin, Emily and Ian provided the ‘pop-up wedding’ service, itself, so if you’re interested in a ‘how we did it’ you should start with their website ( Emily Alt Photography). They provide the framework (photography, setting up and helping to curate the look of the ceremony, selecting a location itself, and so much more)! I agree with you; I, too, want to know how Katie, Kenn & Co. added to the framework! Can ANY pamphlet do it justice?, and if so, I want a pamphlet on making THAT pamphlet, too!

Disclosure: I was the recipient of “Tiny Cate.’

      • ART

I love the Tiny Cate story!

      • Erin

Thanks, John! Full disclosure: I already have my own, very not secret wedding mostly planned. I just LOVE surprises and admire anyone who can pull off a secret wedding! Especially one with tiny Cates! :)

That looked like a whole lot of fun! The outdoor idea makes it really unique! Like an outdoor picnic! I loved the outfits too. Definitely a neat idea for those who are making their own outfits and want a unique wedding theme. ~Paper mache dress form

I went to school in Santa Fe! Such a gem of a town and one of the most beautiful places in the country. This wedding made me all nostalgic for my heart’s home. :) Gorgeous couple, lovely photos…looked like an amazing day!

We are so honored and thrilled APW decided to show our wedding! This site is the reason we had the wedding we wanted (I found Emily here and EVERYTHING changed). Originally, we were going to do an out of town wedding in Houston where we got engaged and then reality set in. Thanks to this site, Emily and Ian, our super supportive friends and a LOT of planning, we had an amazing wedding that was exactly what we wanted. I can’t stress enough how essential it is to do what feels right to YOU as a couple. We definitely had some hurt feelings but it really came down to what we could afford, what felt right, and what reflected us as a couple. I will share this about how I felt about the wedding…we were totally relaxed and laughing throughout the day while getting ready. My husband didn’t want to see me in my dress until the ceremony so there was a build up of excitement. As soon as I put my dress on, I instantly became nervous. I’m definitely not a tiny person, and I started feeling like a snow covered mountain or some sort of linebacker in a dress. I was uncomfortable. The moment my mom and I were walking down the aisle and I laid eyes on my sweet fella, I felt gorgeous, I felt sure, I felt like bubbling out of myself with pure joy. I’d never felt more beautiful and it was because we were doing the right thing, in the right place, at the right time. There’s no wrong way to get married, as long as you stay true to yourselves. My father passed away two and a half years ago and today would have been my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Thank you for such wonderful feedback and to APW for posting this today. It means so much to us and to my sweet mom :).

      Sniffle.

    • Marlena

Congratulations! This is beautiful, and the emotions coming through the photos are simply amazing!

Side question: Where did you get those GORGEOUS shoes?

      • reedriguez

Thank you so much! And we did a super splurge on the shoes and got them at John Fluevog online. If Kenn decided he didn’t want to marry me, I would have married the shoes :).

        • Marlena

:) thank you! This is my new favorite shoe site!
