It’s always really fun to introduce APW to a brand-new-to-us vendor, and today we get to do just that. If you’re in New York, New Orleans, or California you’ll want to take note: Alex Ward Photography actively works in each of these states, and is also happy to travel anywhere and everywhere.
Alex grew up in California, where, as he said, “new indie movies are made every week,” and spent his college years shooting for a daily newspaper and working in visual media in New York (a la Peter Parker), so dude knows his way around a camera. And from the sound of it, he’s got the APW vibe down—as one recent couple put it:
An incredible photographer, a calm and fun presence and an eye candy addition to any wedding, Alex Ward is the best! My husband and I got married at Point Lobos in Carmel, California in July 2014. Alex was with us through the entire process, capturing touching and humorous moments throughout the special day that otherwise would have been missed (or I as the nervous bride would have forgotten!). He not only captured beautiful bride and groom moments, he also brought out the uniqueness and spirit of our wedding. Alex put both of us at ease, and his playful professional style helped to catch the beauty, fun, and love of our day. We had tons of photos, and Alex helped us choose the best ones from the pack for our album(s). I say albums because they were just so good I ended up making a couple to cover the entire experience. Such a joy to work with! I highly recommend Alex for your wedding!
Alex will begin working with you early in the day, and coverage doesn’t stop until you’re ready for it to. He likes to be there for the entire emotional ride, and he knows that the magic sometimes lies in the moment when nervousness turns into excitement, when seriousness gives way to joy, and when relief takes hold and the exuberance of a good party takes over. Sarah and her partner loved Alex and the photos he created:
Alex was truly an excellent wedding photographer, from start to finish. He did our engagement photos and shot all day at our wedding, and we couldn’t be happier with the results of both. He took the time in advance of both shoots to sit down with us to figure out what we were hoping to see in terms of tone, aesthetic, and specific shots, and he also had fantastic ideas that we were excited to take him up on. The results are unique, beautiful photos that truly represent who we are and the joy our friends, our family, and we felt at the occasion. We love how Alex used light in our shots and captured rich colors, details, and expressions.
He was particularly fantastic at handling people—he was great with kids and adults (and even animals!)—making everyone feel completely at ease. He was enjoying himself and made everyone laugh and feel comfortable. Instead of feeling like we were posing, we felt like a polite and funny man was gently guiding us while hanging out. He also totally respected the ceremony, getting all of the crucial shots without imposing himself on the event—something we really cared about in a photographer. Finally, he also really did his homework on our venue—a tricky outdoor location with several spots for the event—with contingency plans for weather and specific locations for key shots already mapped out. Overall, he made everything incredibly easy for us, made our wedding day even more joyful by being a part of it, and produced beautiful photos that reflect who we are.
