All Star Budget Brides!

by Meg Keene, CEO & Editor-In-Chief

Building on my last post, I decided it was time to start ‘The Practical All Star List of Classy Budget Brides.’ Lets get inspired by people who wanted a wedding and a down payment! Get jazzed by brides that knew the value of a dollar! If you learn anything from these weddings, its that you can have a budget wedding in a million different ways. Based on this list, I’d argue you can have a budget wedding in more ways then you can have a extravagant event of a wedding. Lets give ourselves weddings that are worthy of looking (and living) up to. Feel free to nominate more weddings in the comments.

Merry & Mark’s
at home wedding
Avalon’s Tilden Park Wedding
Jesse & Jamez New Orleans style wedding
Ashley & Dusty’s modern ice cream wedding
Kallie & Mike’s mid-century modern at-home wedding
Amaleah’s floral Irish pub wedding
Amanda & Matt’s vintage wedding

I can’t thank the wedding bloggers who wrote these weddings up and the couples who shared these weddings with the world enough. From me to you: MWAH! And dear readers, if you had a classy budget wedding and want to share it, email me!

  • here are two of my favorites, both involving bicycles.

the first one was blogged about on weddingbee, but i think also featured them at some point:

and i know that i saw some photos and the video for the second one on a few blogs, but i can’t remember now, so here’s a link to their flickr site:

    and insanely awesome youtube video:

yep, i’m an insane wedding stalker…..

  • see my comment on your previous post to photo links of my favorite budget wedding– which just happens to be the wedding of my best friend :-)

  • What I’m really curious about is what range is ‘budget wedding’ in? I often read books/articles/blog posts with ‘we had a small budget’ and that number is often way bigger than what I would consider a small budget. So what is the consensus on how much a ‘budget bride’ spends?

Hey Kelly, I’ve been thinking of posting on that. In my book, a couple that maximizes their money is doing a budget wedding. So, a $50K wedding for 800 people? Heck yes, that’s a budget wedding. A $10K wedding for 5 people? Um, no.

I just don’t think couples should be made to feel badly about what they are spending. $5K? Rock it. $23K? Go for it. Because you know the wedding industry is saying $33K is good for, um, Kansas.

  • Thank you so much for this! Love the budget weddings… One thing I’m struggling with is having a budget destination wedding, as I just can’t bring that much stuff with me. I’m definitely going to do all programs, place cards and things on my home computer though!

  • Peonies and Polaroids

I love all of those weddings. They’re all gorgeous.

    There’s this one too –

I’ve no idea what the budget was but I don’t think it was terribly huge.

  • One Love Photo

I love the selection of weddings that you featured. Kallie and Mike’s modern wedding was so wonderful! I was in awe the whole day. Loved their style and clever ideas! It made me want to do my wedding all over again.

  • i feel your pain on the budget destination wedding transport issue, hester – but it can be done, especially if you enlist family members to bring stuff over, too! my mom had a suitcase full of homemade table runners (and my dress!) for our wedding in england (we live in new york), since mine was full of favors and programs (printed and assembled at my office). i’m still grateful to the TSA for not confiscating all of my etsy candles and tins, which must have looked for all the world like a homemade bomb in the x-ray machine :)

Every time I start to freak out I go back to the pictures of this wedding:

Think of us couples on fixed incomes with a wedding/honeymoon budget of $500 and then tell me that a $15,000 party is budget friendly. Talk about a upholding the tradition of blowing your savings on stupid expenses!
