APW How To: A Wish Fulfillment Project

by Meg Keene, CEO & Editor-In-Chief

Hello Team!

It’s the holidays, and it’s been a great, crazy, roller coaster year here at APW. So we decided that to celebrate, we’d give something back in the form of wish fulfillment. One of the new features we rolled out this year was APW’s Lazy Girl How To’s, and the team discovered that we loved them. Yes, they are tons of work. But it’s really fun for us to get away from our isolated desks for a day, collaborate with a bunch of other creatives, make something with our hands, and then provide useful, non-crazy tutorials for you guys. You know, the kind of tutorials we wish we had when we were wedding planning.

To kick off the year we’re finally getting to share some super simple (but really stylish) hair and makeup tutorials we shot back in June at Maddie’s pony farm. (Because as someone who struggled through the process of doing her own hair and makeup, I’m passionate about supporting wedding hair and makeup DIY.) But we haven’t decided what How To’s we’ll be doing next… which is where you come in.

#APWhowto: Pinterest Wish Fulfillment

From now till year end, you guys can log on to Pinterest, and pin anything in the world you’d like to see us make a DIY tutorial. Just make sure to at reply us on whatever you pin (if you follow us on Pinterest, start typing in “A Practical Wedding” and then click on our picture to auto-populate) and then tag the pin with #APWhowto. You can cast your net wide: centerpieces, crafts, veils, flowers, self catering, hair & makeup, you name it. And while you’re pinning, feel free to make notes (“Centerpieces like this, but with fake flowers.” or “Can you do this for curly hair?”). You can check out our DIY board for inspiration (though we tend to post Do-It-Together projects everywhere). Then, follow us on Pinterest, because come January, we’ll post a board of all of our favorite ideas… and then we’ll ask you go like or re-pin the ideas you like best, as a way of voting on the projects.

Finally: we’ll pick projects, shoot some tutorials, and make the magic happen.

And the best part? If we pick your pin and make your project, we’ll do our best to mail you the final product (or the tools we used to make that project come to life). Because for truth: we do not need 57 hand dyed feather place cards at our house.

Now get pinning, and happy holidays.

I love love love this idea. So many pinterest contest/group sourcing things just feel spammy but this is amazing

(#APWhowto isn’t turning up any search results, despite me already pinning 4 things?)

Ah, ok, so we just caught a glitch with Pinterest hashtags that makes it hard to search for them (blerg). So just at reply @practicalwed and include the hashtag and we’ll be sure to see it!
