APW at the Love/Make Wedding Expo!

Finally a wedding show with free booze

by Meg Keene, CEO & Editor-In-Chief

So, wedding shows. Because so many of them are awful, APW has only ever done one wedding event. It was very local, I was very postpartum, and I put some books on a table and smiled and ate cake. I assumed that event would be the last time I attended any kind of wedding show around San Francisco. But no! More cake! On Sunday, April 27th, we’re thrilled to be participating in The Bold Italic’s first ever wedding expo in San Francisco, Love/Make. It’s going to be big, it’s going to be awesome, and we hope it’s going to be everything those scary pressure-you-into-buying-things wedding shows are not. I will still be eating cake, but this time there will also be free champagne.

And you should come! Here’s why:

First of all, Maddie and I will be there giving out wedding advice like it’s our job. (It is our job.) There is going to be free bubbly. (Remember how we discussed the fact that all wedding fairs should have booze? That.) AND! There will be DJ performances, a photo booth, a Slo-Mo video booth, a brow barnail art, cake samples, and more. By which I mean to say, good luck finding me at my booth giving out wedding advice, because I obviously have to do the Slo-Mo video booth and get some nail art done. (And yes, you can totally sneak in if you’re not engaged, because FUN.) Admission to Love/Make is $10 in advance or $15 at the door, and includes a complimentary tote bag provided by The Bold Italic.

Beyond all that, we’ll also be giving away books. Not selling, giving. So if you haven’t already bought a copy, come say hi and try your hand at getting one. (I’ll even sign it.) There’s more fun involved, but I couldn’t possibly give more details than that (though there’s a tiny hint above).

So come visit us next Sunday at Love/Make. We’ll have on our sparkles, and we’ll bring our best advice.

I’m going! *squee* I should bring my copy of the book and get it signed!

    • Jules

Oh man..mine is a Kindle copy. I wouldn’t even be ABLE to do this. :( Although maybe a Kindle signed by Meg is pretty cool too..

      • Meg Keene

You’ll just have to win a free copy! I mean, free to you. I bought 30 of them for this. On Amazon. Because the Amazon price is now legit lower than my author price, because you’ve all bought so many and they do volume discount, bless you all.

PS I’ve never given away books before! But it seems a worthy celebration of the little book that could doing so well.

        • Jennifer

I just recommended your book to a new running buddy who has TWO best friends engaged as of last week! Whee. I said, there are SANE ways to do weddings. Check out APW and the BOOK.

  • Ally

This sounds so awesome! Can I use the fact that I’m a matron of honor for a wedding next year as an excuse to go?!

    • Meg Keene

Seriously. I’m not being paid to say that, I’m just showing up, so trust me on this. OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE TO DO RESEARCH. On nail art. And slo mo photobooths.

      • Ally

        and free champagne…

  • Emily

Ugghhhh when will San Francisco stop being so far away from Columbus? Seriously, this is getting old, guys.

…I mean… That sounds amazing! What a cool event to be involved in! You’re going to rock it!

    • YetAntherMegan

It’s excruciatingly far from PA too. Ugh. And I didn’t even get to go to any expos or shows while I’ve been engaged. My mom, his mom, and his sister all went and took notes for me, but that’s SO NOT THE SAME. And now the super cool one happens on the wrong side of the country.

I’m going to guess that the hint is the confetti picture with you and Maddie, so clearly your giveaway method is to have one of those big wind tunnel booth things where the person grabs as many as they can.
Except that flying books would cause bruising, so no.

    • Meg Keene

I haven’t figured out how to giveaway the books yet, so suggestions needed. I will accept this as the first suggestion. Who wants to buy me a wind tunnel booth?

      • Hannah B

You could launch books out of that confetti cannon. A book launch, if you will.

        I’m here all week.

        • Maddie Eisenhart

          Book launch. You win.

        • Meg Keene

          Happy birthday to me.

          • Hannah B

Here’s another present…a bride in [couture] pants!! http://lover.ly/image-details/349580

So it’s from 2012, which means you can probably find it on sale? And Happy Birthday!

    • Maddie Eisenhart

I always wanted to be on one of those gameshows where you had to grab as many dollars as possible in a wind tunnel. A girl can dream.

      • My high school grad night had one of these. I grabbed about 200$. It was a GREAT night.

        • My afterprom had one, and I won at least enough to buy a full tank of gas for my pickup truck. Good times!

I want to go. Even though I’ve already picked out my vendors. Just for the funs. And the APW peeps. I may see you there!

    • Meg Keene

I’m pretty sure you don’t need to be picking vendors. We’re giving away (almost) free advice! Worth every penny!

  • I’m going! And I may bring my boyfriend. And my best friend, who’s in town next weekend. None of us are engaged, but lovely people, pretty things, and free-ish booze are good enough reasons for me!

  • Jules

A book giveaway and signing?! I wish I were in San Fran. I’ve directed at least two recently engaged friends towards the APW book!

…Speaking of free champagne, it reminds me of my funniest ring shopping experience. SO and I stumbled in by chance to a very swanky jewelry store which was having a bridal event that day, complete with towers of macarons (!!!), models in wedding dresses (talk about unrealistic expectations..), various local vendors, and waiters doing passed hors d’oevres and champagne. It was the bomb. I also tried on a $60,000 ring, found out the price, said it was a little over budget, and was handed a $40,000 ring.

We did manage to win a $100 gift certificate J. Hilburn, which we learned was enough to buy a pocket square, or most of a nice dress shirt.

I looked at what I wanted to, but the whole experience was just so anti-APW that we had a good laugh once we finally left.

    • Meg Keene

I LOVE TRYING ON $60K RINGS. I do it at the estate jewelers where we got my re-engagement ring. It’s basically my favorite thing ever.

  • Alison O

Hm….. Is the tiny hint the diamond in the “sh*t”? Ha, that’s like an APW version of the saying diamond in the rough.

  • Hayley

Whaaaat. This sounds amazing! I am so jealous.

  • Sara

I’m already married AND Maddie shot the wedding, but I totally want to go.

I just moved from San Francisco this past fall, and I’ve been missing it like crazy lately. This just makes me miss it more! I wish I could go!

Anyone know of anything like this up in Seattle?
