#APWHowTo: Take Two

As Meg mentioned in yesterday’s Letter From The Editor, the APW staff is really excited to be making a few small, but exciting changes to our content this year. One of the things we’re most excited about is bringing more reader engagement to our Lazy Girl DIY series. Because, yes, we totally love putting them together (I mean, just look at that photo of Emily and Kate and tell me crafting with APW isn’t fun), but what we really hope to get out of our how-to’s this year is to take the wedding ideas you guys are most psyched about, then remove all the guesswork so that they are easy to execute the first time. That way you won’t be tempted to gouge out your own eyeballs with pinking shears halfway through the project. Because as far as I’m concerned, that’s what internet tutorials (and also protective goggles) are all about.

So! Last month, we launched our master plan to crowd-source wedding how-to inspiration through Pinterest. The idea was that you’d pin your favorite stuff (anything goes! Decor, attire, hair and makeup, whatever!) and tag it with #APWHowTo so that we could find it and collect it and make a few of our favorite items later this year. And while it sorta kinda worked, what we quickly learned is that the way Pinterest catalogs its content is very different from other social media networks. Finding the stuff that you guys pinned and tagged for us was basically a crapshoot (for those of you who knew this already: sorry, we’re learning). So now we’re back, this time with take two. Because dammit, we want to help make your wedding crafting easy.

The good news is that there is now more time for you to submit your ideas (yay!). But we’re moving the #APWHowTo submissions to a group board so that we can make absolutely sure to grab everything you guys send our way. Here’s how it will work:

If you want to participate, simply send an email to team at apracticalwedding dot com with “#APWHowTo” as the subject and we’ll send you an invitation to the #APWHowTo Pinterest board. Once you’ve been invited, you can pin your ideas directly to the board. There are a few pins that made it through Pinterest’s filters that are already on there, but if you tagged something as #APWHowTo and don’t see your pin there, it means the Pinterest search monsters ate it, so feel free to add it again! Then, at the end of the month we’ll round up all of your ideas and choose a few to execute.

So thanks again to anyone who’s sent in ideas already, and apologies to those of you whose submissions got lost in the ether. (Did I mention we’re still learning?) We are super excited about what we’re seeing so far (seriously, y’all have the best taste) and can’t wait to bring your ideas to life!
