Announcing the (Virtual) Book Tour Plus a Big-Ass Giveaway!

It's the first happy hour of the year so we figured we'd start with a bang

ME2_7362

Four years ago, when I was just starting out at APW, one of the very first things I got to do at work was go on the second leg of Meg’s book tour. We traveled by Amtrak from New York to D.C. and then Atlanta, before spending a few days in New Orleans. I’d been reading APW for almost four years by that point, but seeing bookstores packed wall to wall with APWers was one of my first glimpses into the power of this community.

Fast-forward four more years and the new APW book is officially out! And thanks to the response from you guys alone, it’s currently the number two wedding planner on Amazon, trailing only The Knot’s massively bestselling wedding binder. The Knot, you guys. Have I mentioned you are the best?

It’s funny to get to be the person who talks about the book but who didn’t write it, because I get to have all of the excitement of “we did this!” without actually having done the hard part. Which, frankly, is exactly the role in book writing I like to take. But I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t been mostly book book book book book over here this week. Lucky for me, though, my part in the book has been getting to drum up some really cool stuff to celebrate the launch of the #APWPlanner.

So today, in place of your regularly scheduled happy hour update on our lives, here are three book related things that I’m really excited about:

1. The #APWPlanner Virtual Book Tour

Alas, this time around there is no real world APW book tour, because as I write this, Meg’s six-month-old is crawling around my desk at the #APWOffice (she’s helping us pack up Wedding Planning Survival Kits). But that shouldn’t mean we can’t still do a tour anyway, right? So this time, Meg is embarking on a virtual book tour. Over the next few months, she’ll be sitting down with some of our favorite podcasters to talk about weddings (obvs), running a business, and what goes on behind the scenes at APW. We’ll be updating this post as more podcast dates are added, but for now, the tour is as follows:

First stop: Elise Gets Crafty with Elise Joy, where Meg talks about the founding and growing of APW as a business. Live Now! Click here to go straight to Meg’s episode, or listen to it below:

Second Stop: Save The Date Podcast.

EPISODE ONE:

EPISODE TWO:

Third Stop: Stuff Mom Never Told You.

Episode One (A Practical Wedding):

Episode Two (A Feminist Marriage):

Fourth Stop: Being Boss. Coming in February. Check back later for exact dates. We’ll also embed any episodes after they go live, and let y’all know.

P.S. Is there a podcast you love that you would die to see APW crossover with? We’re still booking the tour, so send your faves to team at apracticalwedding dot com (or tell us in the comments, making sure to use the word “podcast” so we can find it). That said, no Serial. For obvious reasons.

2. The #APWPlanner “check that shit off your list” Big Ass Giveaway

The whole point of the #APWPlanner is to make wedding planning easier, no matter what kind of wedding you’re having. (It’s kind of like a choose your own adventure book, except instead of mysteries and science fiction, you get logistical advice and tips on how to minimize stress.) So we figured what better way to do that than help you check off some of the big stuff on your checklist? (Did I mention for free? Because FOR FREE.) With that in mind, we partnered with three of APW’s sponsors for the “Check That Shit Off Your List” giveaway. Here’s the grand prize:
