Once upon a time, I scoffed at the idea of sending out holiday cards. What was the point? (Hipster Maddie is too cool for your traditions.) But then I moved three thousand miles away from all my friends and family. And as we make the hard decision each year about whether or not we’ll be trekking home to spend the holidays with our families, it makes me feel a little closer to the people I love when the envelopes start to arrive and my wall is filled with smiling faces of friends and family and babies and puppies. And now? I’m a full-on convert. I mean, who wouldn’t want this to show up at their doorstep? (Hint: Adorable cowboy boots are the property of Meg’s kids.)

But it wasn’t until we started working with Minted that I actually began to enjoy the process of making our own holiday cards. Minted makes it easy for me to send out cards that look like I spent a lot of time on them, even when I didn’t. They even print the recipient addresses for me for free, because I am lazy and these cards would not get sent out otherwise.

And because Minted’s designs are all A+, I get to spend my time taking a silly family portrait every year, instead of wasting hours trying to find a design I like. Behold, last year’s card (photo courtesy of Najva, smoke bomb courtesy of a very reluctant Michael):

And a strong contender for this year’s:

2016-10-25

But even if you don’t have friends you can harass into taking your picture, or a paint ball store that just happens to carry smoke bombs, Minted still has you covered. They’ve got beautiful non-photo cards, plus foil-printed cards, and letterpress cards that basically do all the work for you. And if you want to get really custom? Minted will let you turn your (or your kid’s) art into a completely custom holiday card. So if you’ve just got your wedding photos back and you’re looking for an excuse to show them off, here are thirty-five of our favorite Minted designs this year.

P.S. I want to see your holiday cards, guys! Can we turn the comments into a virtual mantle, please?

I’ll bite and post mine on the virtual mantle! I just made them last week and I’m feeling especially proud of them and adult-like. I loved Minted’s selection of newlywed cards, and the wedding invitation list gave me the perfect starting point for a Christmas card list. Seriously – now that I have EVERYONE’S address (hard-won!) from getting ready to send invitations out, maybe I’ll actually send other cards for once!

    • Brynna

What a great photo! Beautiful card!

      • Jenn

Thanks! I tripped as we were walking back down the aisle and this is the result… Triumphant laughter! :)

        • Rose

Hah! We also have a photo of us laughing as we go back down the aisle–for us it was because the officiant hadn’t noticed until midway through the service that the last page of his script hadn’t printed. He carried on just fine for the most part, but forgot the kiss. We were prompted by the audience as we turned to go, and my favorite photo sequence from the whole day is us kissing and then laughing as we walk out.

  • Rose

This is a very timely reminder that I haven’t thought at all about this year’s cards yet! We did go with Minted last year, and loved them. Speaking of how your wedding isn’t timeless–I hadn’t been intending to do such a wedding-themed one, but that design just set us so perfectly in 2015, and I wanted to remember that. We were quite pleased with the cards, too! (the photo is by Technicolor Vision)

      The. Cutest.

  • Amie Melnychuk

The glitter dress is the winner! C’mon Maddie, is there any other option when you can have glitter?

  • idkmybffjill

OMG OMG OMG. That glitter dress is like a vanity fair cover I’m DYING.
SO pumped to make cards this year, although we haven’t done it yet (waiting on our wedding photos).

  • Jessica

I adore your family portrait candidate for this year, Maddie! It’s glam and fun.

We’ve never had family photos taken aside from out wedding, so last year I just mined Instagram and used Minted to make a holiday card. This year, we are actually going to an event at our local West Elm, where Minted is doing free family photo shoots with dogs. I’m pretty excited! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/eea58ec2e86d455f7d03a909975f90fac9bb9227610ad4f9e571120f8eb5fe38.png

  • Ashlah

Maddie! Your dog is so big and I love her! And you and your husband are total hotties. That card is the clear winner (even though we’ve seen none of the other contenders).

    • Maddie Eisenhart

<3. And for some reason the puppy looks EXTRA huge there. Like, she's big. But she looks like Clifford in that picture.

      • Meredith

I love how fancy y’all are with that huge dog! Such a beautiful and fun looking family!

  • Rebekah

Aaaaand impatiently waiting and hoping Maddie does this post in a year so we can see Maddie + Michael + baby…

    • stephanie

and Gaia! Gaia is a celebrity in our home, my son is obsessed with her. ;)

      • Rebekah

YES! + Gaia. Crossed fingers for a photo of baby on a giant puppy. Ho ho ho. :)

  • Brynna

This is great! We used Minted last year and will likely use them every year – people got a kick out of our cards.

I LOVE THIS! The kitties!!! Wonderful idea.

      • Brynna

Thanks! Our local Petco was doing a fundraiser for charity – you could take your pet to get their photo taken with Santa for $10! It was the best $10 I ever spent.

    • EF

you kitty and my kitty look a lot alike! and probably both as excited to be on a card!

  • lady brett

maddie! your dog! your dog is amazing and makes me want to roll on the floor.

  • Katherine

Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to browse pretty holiday cards in order to relieve the stress of this 2016 Election Day.

  • JC

Is it weird to do holiday cards *with your picture on them* as a couple who isn’t married? Last year, I did some cute post-Christmas Joy/Peace/New Years cards that served as thank-yous for Christmas and also gave all of my family our new address, because we had moved in December. We’re moving again this December and I’d like to do the same, maybe even pre-Christmas if I can get my act together! In my family, Christmas cards usually come after a couple gets married, and in his family, I don’t think they do cards at all. Maybe I’m being overly influenced by outside forces on this one…

    • EF

do it if you want to! i’ve definitely gotten cards from unmarried but committed couples that have their picture on it. always happy to see pictures of friends! doesn’t matter if they’ve made it legal or not.

      • JC

Thanks! It’s one of those “navigating new spaces as long-time single folks” that kinda creeps up on me.

    • Maddie Eisenhart

Not weird at all! I would love to get them from allll my friends.

  • EF

yay for including your pet in the picture! I ordered our holiday cards over the weekend, and this pic (photoshopped as a joke by a friend) almost made it. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ae350c7d1aaf865faef196824b91be128c46e627f65cafee4fd90f2d2b968dc4.jpg
