I have been waiting for Katch Silva to move to California since we introduced her in 2012. Well, okay. I had no actual way of knowing that Katch was going to be moving to LA until she told me. But I have been trying to figure out how I could get Katch to take my picture from all the way across the continent. There aren’t many photographers who I have an active kidnapping plan in place for, but Katch’s work is just so good, and her easygoing personality is so infectious, that for the first time in forever, I actually want to get my photo taken. Katch is a darkroom-trained photographer, who also studied math and philosophy in school. So it makes sense that her shooting style is as much technical skill as it is personality.
I’ve been told time and time again by people I’ve photographed that my personality (and my smile in specific for some reason) makes them feel at ease and comfortable, even if they don’t particularly “like to have their photo taken.” I take my job of making you feel comfortable very seriously and I’m good at it! I like to grab a cup of coffee first, get to know you a little bit, and by the time I’m taking your picture it’s like I’m just goofing off with old friends and having fun.
When it comes to the wedding day, I like to be as stealth as possible. I’ve been told by multiple couples and guests at different weddings that I was like a ninja catching moments that they never even noticed I was around for. Since documenting the day in a truly honest way is my main goal, I like to go unnoticed and really capture the moments without changing them.
That said, I will hike to a mountain peak with you, or camp overnight in the desert, or wade in rivers, or climb cliffs, just to get that amazing shot (all of which I have done). I will do it gladly. Adventures outdoors are one of my other passions, so when I can combine photography with the outdoors, and with adventurous couples, it is kinda my magic.

No more checking the clock, no more having to squeeze your cake cutting in so your photographer is there for it. I’m there for you and your wedding. Not the other way around.
