These trained photojournalists and second-generation wedding photographers won't miss a moment

There’s something extra special about having photographers who are partners in life as well as in business by your side at your wedding. So we’re excited to introduce Sarah and Jeff Porter of New England-based Two of Us Photography, with rates starting at $3,000. As a recently married couple, these trained photojournalists get what it’s like to be—together—on the other side of the camera. And as second-generation (!) wedding photographers, they are well versed in all the things that can go down at a wedding in a way most of us will never need to be.

Sarah found APW through a fellow wedding photographer, and immediately felt at home here:

APW couples create wedding celebrations that authentically represent who you are, where you’ve come from, and where you’ll go together, along with the people who have followed you on the journey. For you, the wedding isn’t a show; it’s a meaningful marker in your life, with real emotion and surprise moments along the way. We’re huge supporters of this mentality, as this was the basis for our own wedding, and collaborate with each couple to capture all the real, unique emotions throughout the day.

Two of Us Photography’s Sarah and Jeff met while studying photojournalism at the Rochester Institute of Technology and have been together ever since—through internships at newspapers around the country and now in Vermont, a place they fell in love with while interning with a small, photo-centric newspaper.

Wedding photography has always been a part of Sarah’s life; her parents are wedding photographers in Pennsylvania, and she worked alongside them from the age of fourteen. As Sarah tells us:

I learned how to put people at ease while photographing in stressful moments and how to find that perfect spot of light from my mom, and how to get a group laughing from my dad. When Jeff and I began dating, he began working alongside them too, gleaning from their twenty-five years of experience working together. We loved watching my parents work together, and when people started asking Jeff and me to photograph their weddings, we were both thrilled to bring our vision to a family tradition.

Together, we merge the things we’ve learned together to bring our unique form of documentary wedding photography to others: love, family, making people feel at ease, and creating beautiful, moment-driven photographs that reflect who they are. Having two people who are very comfortable working together is also super helpful when coordinating family photos—we are always able to work quickly and efficiently, so you’ll have lovely group photos but be able to get back to partying soon. We also just really love working together, and using our two different visions to create a multidimensional view of each celebration we photograph.

Thanks to their background in photojournalism, Sarah and Jeff are ready for pretty much… anything. Bride and groom getting tossed up in the air in a blanket? Check. Wedding in a small, intimate, candlelit restaurant? No problem. Zoo, cathedral, or the top of a ski slope? These are all situations and environments Sarah and Jeff have firsthand experience with, so you can rest assured they’ll show up prepared for your wedding, no matter what it entails.

As client Eve confirms:

I cannot speak highly enough of Jeff and Sarah and their work. The photography at our wedding was very important to us and I spent a lot of time looking for a photographer that fit with our low-key and nontraditional wedding. We knew we wanted a photographer who was able to act as a fly on the wall and capture candid images of us with our guests. I had a great feeling about Jeff and Sarah given their “can-do” attitude—lighting and space were definitely an issue at our wedding venue, and when I was speaking to other potential photographers, I heard a lot of “I can’t” and “It might be difficult.” Such words were not expressed by Sarah and Jeff, who took on the project wholeheartedly. Any restrictions that our venue caused didn’t show in the photos they produced—we received tons of shots and lots of variety.

I corresponded mostly with Sarah and found her to be extremely professional and easy to work with. Her calm and reassuring demeanor made us really relaxed and at ease. In fact, I hardly had to think about the wedding photos, because I got the sense that Sarah was totally on top of the whole thing.

In the end, we received exactly what we wanted—great photos of my husband and me, a few posed family photos, and lots of candid/photojournalism-style shots of us celebrating with our closest family and friends. The only problem I am having is that I can’t choose which photographs to get framed because all the pictures are so great!
