Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
I want to work with like-minded couples who are focused on joy, meaning, and inhabiting themselves fully on their wedding day. It would be my pleasure to join them in that presence, and get wonderful pictures for them. I am known for bringing that presence with me, no matter who I am working with, and my brides often tell me that my calm, grounded, positive presence helped them immensely, but it is always a profound pleasure to work with people who are seeking that to begin with, and value it.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
I have a nose for authenticity and joy, as well as a deep appreciation for creative use of light. My photos often capture genuine moments, full of emotion, and I also include the light as another personality in the photo, seeking light that is as expressive as my couples are. I shoot close up with shorter lenses, and stay away from zooms except during the ceremony, which lends my photos a dynamic, creatively composed feel.
Part of my artistic approach is my personality, and my interactions with people I am photographing. Although I am very respectful and stay in the background as much as possible, I find it helpful when people know they are connecting with a real person when they look at the camera, and get a sense of who I am. I find connection to be a very joyful part of shooting a wedding for me, and find that it helps people loosen up and step into genuine moments with ease.
I often say that I capture depth of emotion, authentic connection, and magical light.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
I don’t know if I’m allowed to have hobbies, since I run a business and raise two children. But, actually, I do manage to play guitar a good bit, and gather with friends to play music in general. I don’t think meditation is considered a hobby, but it’s one of the things that nourishes me and that I devote great time to. Having dinner with amazing friends, and deeply connecting with amazing people for whom I’m so grateful, is a major hobby of mine.
What’s your favorite book?
Impossible to choose. Impossible. Sigh. I am always reading something by Jack Kornfield or Sharon Salzberg, though. I love the poet Jena Strong. I am grateful for the written word and the people who write them. I am one of those writers, but only on my Facebook page. Lol.
What’s your favorite movie?
The Shawshank Redemption. Or Ghandi.
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
Something by Stevie Wonder or Michael Jackson. Maybe I Wish or Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough. If I wanted to belt something out and pretend to be a rock star, it would be Brandi Carlile.
