Describe your business in 1-3 short sentences.

I’m not interested in photographing some idealized version of your love. For me, it is so much more important to create something honest, something with raw edges and all the feels. I try to photograph the raddest of couples, super ridiculous in love couples, and to do it in the most genuine way I possibly can. I hope you are more interested in authentic images of your love story than some watered down and homogenized robot poses from the rest of the wedding industrial complex.

Why do you want to work with APW Couples?

Because they are all about the love, and less about the details. Because they love wholly and honestly and value healthy relationships where partners support each other and their dreams. Because they are big hearted and open minded and willfully stray from the pack to do their own thing because it’s what they want and not what the masses said your wedding is supposed to look like. Because they are more about the marriage than the wedding.

Describe your artistic approach to weddings?

I want to make photographs that prove the very existence of a love story. Photos that become artifacts and heirlooms, that get found in the future by someone whose breath gets taken away by the heavy and palpable love in them. Photos of people’s shoes rarely do this. Intimate, quiet moments, the wind catching loose hair, nervous glances, and raucous laughter usually do the trick. I make those images instead. For most of the day I’m hands off, no redos or set ups, just following a photojournalistic style of catching things in the moment. During portraits I’ll see how you two interact, and if it’s awkward and you giggle- unsure of what to do with your hands, I’ll take some photos of that, but then I’ll step in and offer direction. Not posing. Never crazy robot poses. Just ideas and games and jokes really, to help you shake off photo nerves and focus on the person you love most in the world who is in front of you. I’m available for help figuring out timelines, or suggestions on pretty light to get ready in, but I don’t want your day to be a photo shoot, I want it to be about bear hugs, and sweet dance moves, and of course, the love.

What are your non-work-related hobbies?

Urban gardening, herbalism, ashtanga + rocket yoga, fermenting things, dog belly nuzzles, husband belly nuzzles, obsessively collecting houseplants, travel, travel, travel.
