Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
We discovered APW after a few of our couples suggested it to us as a place where we should be. :) So after some digging and some mild internet stalking, we discovered that APW does indeed have exactly our type of clients. We want to work with you because you are down-to-earth couples who are concentrating on what really matters (your relationship) and less on what doesn’t matter (worrying about your flowers wilting or the hem of your dress/pants getting dirty or whether or not the sparkler exit will go off without a hitch). Because you know what? We’ve been to a lot of weddings, and not a single one has gone perfectly. The ones that are an absolute success in spite of the mild hassles are weddings of those who can go with the flow, laugh it off, and keep rolling… and those are the people we want to work with.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
There are two of us (hello! I am Carolyn, and this is my husband, Geoff) and we shoot both separately and together. We shoot entirely candid photography throughout the day with the exception of family portraits, bridal party portraits, and the couple portraits (although we like them to look really non-posed, they are still actually posed… because, you know, you’re probably not a model and won’t know what to do, so we’re there to tell you). Nothing else is instructed… we just kind of follow you both around, photographing the details and people and madness and mayhem along the way. We’re kind of like extended bridal party members and wedding planners, too. We’ll occasionally chime into conversations and help with buttons and zippers and carrying things and timelines and helping Grandma down the stairs and all sorts of other things if we’re needed. :)
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
Together we have two cats who are always yelling at us and tripping us and generally getting in the way with being cute, so corralling them and petting them and keeping them pleased is our biggest time sink. Besides that, we really enjoy watching dramatic television where Carolyn has to close her eyes half the time (The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, House of Cards). We try to play tennis (poorly), follow Coheed and Cambria around when they tour, and have a large interest in modernist house architecture and mid-century modern furniture collecting. Independently, Carolyn watches bad Investigation Discovery shows on Netflix while she’s editing photographs and then gets kind of paranoid. She also grows succulents and cacti and plays the piano. She’s 4’10. Geoff collects Star Wars action figures and has an original box of jawbreakers candy from the release of Jurassic Park. He listens to vinyl records of Van Halen and works hard on keeping his beard very beardy.
