Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
I am not a platinum wedding kind of wedding photographer. I never have been, I never will be. I want to photograph people who understand there is more to weddings then pretty favors and fancy linens. APW couples tend to get that what matters most in this whole wedding deal is what started you on this crazy journey in the first place; that pretty awesome person by your side.
Because of that and because you are real and genuine and just plain awesome! You all are just so much fun to work with. I feel like we see eye to eye on what things are most important. As much as photographers today like to photograph the details, and I promise to get the details, I really like to photograph the people. The moments. The look on your face when you finally get to marry the person you love. I photograph weddings and elopements for the laughter, the happiness, and the emotion. APW folks are my kind of people.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
I’m not your typical get in a fake pose and pretend to smile photographer. I like to have fun with my clients, the more we both laugh while taking your photos, the better. I enjoy capturing what makes each couple unique. I love telling the story of events that are reflective of the couple and their love, whatever crazy quirks that might entail. I want to photograph you how you are with your partner at this moment in time; interacting like you would if I wasn’t there.
I’ll give a bit of direction to help you feel comfortable, but let you be yourself as much as possible. During your ceremony and reception I try to be as unobtrusive as possible while still capturing the action.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
I travel, I cook, I teach, I run road races and do triathlons, and I am passionate about social justice causes. Did I mention I travel? I may or may not be a serious travel addict. I will always opt to walk barefoot in the grass. I love drinking a big, dry red wine or dark beer, or green tea. I love ice cream, dessert is a crucial part of every meal. I adore long leisurely meals, particularly at sidewalk cafes. Farmers markets make me happy, especially the summer tomatoes. I speak Spanish. I practice yoga. I love getting lost in a good book. And I love taking pictures.
What’s your favorite book?
So many, but Harry Potter will always top the list.
What’s your favorite movie?
I’m not a movie buff, however I could recite to you line for line every word of Empire Records. Good Will Hunting is probably my all time favorite.
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
Anything salsa!
Explain your travel policy:
Have passport will travel!! I would LOVE to shoot your destination event! Travel fees are generally on an at cost basis for airfare, lodging and rental car. I love visiting my home state of Minnesota and do not charge travel fees for any events in the Twin Cities metro area. From August 2012-August 2013, I will be taking on wedding bookings in Vermont (especially around Montpelier and Burlington) , New Hampshire, Maine, and Northern Massachusetts for no additional travel fee! I also commute to New York regularly and do not charge travel fees for weddings or elopements within the New York City area.
