Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
I love the realness, fun and imagination that my clients from APW have had. They are generally inventive, full of love and fantastic to shoot for. I love shooting weddings and if I didn’t have to make a living I might just do it for fun.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
I am primarly a fine art documentary photographer. I would say that my photos are whimsical and capture the joy of the day. I love documenting both the small and big moments, the laughter, and all the crazy dancing. For portraits my work is a little more editorial but extremely natural, I don’t like to overly pose people but like to capture the natural beauty between the couples (If you’re one of those couples that aren’t sure if they want portraits I’ve written up a blog post with some tips to make you a little more comfortable).
Over all though, I’d say my work is simple but beautiful and something that you and your family will enjoy for years and years and year.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
My non- work related hobbies include yoga, hiking, my cats. thrifting (I think one day I might open up a vintage store), online shopping (I am obsessed with ruche at the moment), traveling, camping (trying to do more of this this year!). I’d also say music but not playing just listening to it, although I dabble with piano and guitar playing but I am not much further then playing a few Bob Dylan songs REALLY REALLY slow. I can also play We Three Kings on piano. Ha.
What’s your favorite book?
Oh my…I need to read more..the last few years I have been slacking although I do very much enjoy reading and love the smell of an old book. My favorite book is probably Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs (I love him! There are times I have been reading his books in public and burst out laughing). I also really like David Thorne, while most of his work is online (although I do own his books too). I absulutely love his sarcasm and sense of humor. How to tell if your cat is planning to kill you is also a wonderful read. :) If you own cats it is a must.
What’s your favorite movie?
Humm…favorite movie, man when I was younger I had this answer down but it’s… movies not “movie.” My old list went something like SLC Punk, Reality Bites, Boonedock Saints, Benny & June, Edward Sissorhands, Pulp Fiction…but now it’s tough…. I’ve seen soo many movies!!! I am an avid movie watcher. I still love all of the movies above but favorite recent movie? Let’s see… There will Be Blood while gruesome was beautifully filmed. Life is Beautiful is a amazing and beautiful story. Any Futurama movie I could watch over and over again and well any Dr Who movie with David Tenamment I could rewatch a few times. ;) Oh! Saving Grace (the movie not the show) is so awesome. I love the part with the old ladies who accidentally drink weed tea.
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
Lately I’ve been into The Lumineers, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson’s (Walyon & Willie album). I love old country like Johnny Cash & Hank Williams. Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis have some good rocking out songs and are on my starred spotify list, for dancing “And We Danced” is pretty great (my sis is the girl in The Otherside video…small world hugh?), I also dig Foster the People, Dr Dog & Nic Dawson Kelly. I also love lots of jazz, mow-town, old school hip hop and blue grass.
