Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
I have built my entire business around APW, its philosophy, and its readers. Every couple I meet through APW feels like old friends I just haven’t met yet. APW couples appreciate me as an artist and trust me as a vendor, and I appreciate them for being genuine and an absolute blast to work with!
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
I shoot people in the face. With a camera of course.
But for reals, I like to get to know each couple, as well as their loved ones, so that by the time I show up at their wedding, I’m able to take photos that really capture who they are and tell the story of the wedding as it really happened. I still love looking through my grandparents’ wedding photos, and when I create images I think about those future generations who may someday look back on them and say to themselves “I totally would have hung out with them at that age.”
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
I like making lists and organizing things. I love cooking. I have a dog who I just can’t get enough of. I like working in my garden; lately I’ve been hunting down old Pyrex bakeware to plant succulents in. I like crafting and sewing. I love telling funny stories.
What’s your favorite book?
Raising the Perfect Child Through Guilt and Manipulation, by Elizabeth Beckwith. Yes, I know, my future kids are doomed. But in a funny way.
What’s your favorite movie?
Ghost World. I’ve been quoting it for 10 years and see no end it sight.
“This is the ultimate. It’s like the Taj Mahal of fake ’50s diners.”
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
Spanish Flea, by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. I have a little dance that goes with it; it’s one part Fosse, one part 70s-game-show-contestant as they come-on-down.
Explain your travel policy?
I work primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area, but for everywhere else, I just need a plane ticket and a place to sleep.
