Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
I want to work with APW couples simply because I freaking love you guys. And I’m one of you. Long before I was a sponsor, I was a terrified wedding undergraduate who had no idea how to have a wedding and not lose her mind. But with the help of APW, not only did I get married, but I turned around and started photographing weddings too. APW readers have made my business possible, and it delights me to no end that I get to keep working with you time and time again. More than that though, APW readers get it. Most of the clients I end up working with are people who have been through, well, shit together. You’ve fought hard to get where, and you’re ready to celebrate your hard work with a kickass party that brings the house down.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
I think the most powerful aspect of a photograph is its power to capture a moment in time so specific it makes your heart ache when you look at it years down the road. With this is as my guiding principle, I work really hard to figure out exactly what makes you tick, so that when you get your wedding photos back, you look at them and think, “Yes, this is exactly who we are, right now, in this moment.” I will sometimes tell really awful jokes to try and make this process more fun. So these two chemists walk into a bar…
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
I spend way too much time watching terrible TV (anyone else still watching Grey’s Anatomy?), spooning my dog, and chasing geese off my front lawn. I also work for this website called A Practical Wedding. You may have heard of it.
What’s your favorite book?
When I was a kid I would read any book with the word chocolate in the title, so I ended up becoming quite fond of “The Chocolate War” and “Like Water for Chocolate.” Surprisingly, this tactic hasn’t let me down yet.
What’s your favorite movie?
“The Princess Bride,” hands down. “No more rhymes now, I mean it! Anybody want a peanut?”
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
“Low” by Flo Rida.
Explain your travel policy:
Travel is included across the west coast. Anywhere else is at cost. No gimmicks. No hassles. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. And other cliches.
