Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
We don’t really do anything by the book and we don’t expect our clients to do so either. A wedding is your party and the “rules” are yours to make or break.
When we got married, we were clear on our intentions: to celebrate our love while throwing a bad ass party for friends and family. We were thoughtful about how we invested our money and enlisted the help of our community wherever possible.
We think that in being practical, DIY, creative – or whatever you want to call it – you’ll end up with a more unique, personalized, and intimate celebration. By involving friends and family in the production, the process becomes just as special as the party; and those are the kinds of weddings we love.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
Photojournalism meets fine art.
First and foremost we try and tell the story of your wedding. We are not there to create the story of a beautiful wedding, posing you and bossing you around, rather we try and document your real wedding, your real love, in a beautiful way.
We roll with the punches, improvise as we go, work with available light, and adjust to the flow of the day. Sometimes we are like flies on the wall, watching and shooting photos, and sometimes we are just guests – chatting up your mom and hanging out at the kids table.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
We love road trips with our dogs and cameras. We both enjoy playing with film and have a small collection of instant and vintage cameras. We’ll take any opportunity to get out of town and shoot personal photos someplace new.
What’s your favorite movie?
THOR!!!! It was what we saw on our first date. We had been “friends” for some time so I (Helena) couldn’t tell if it was a date or not. The moment I decided that Laurent wasn’t interested, he reached out and held my hand. Laurent thinks all comic book movies are great cinema, I don’t completely agree, but Thor was something special.
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
Bohmian Rapsody (the abridged version)
