Why do you want to work with APW Couples?

Because they are sometimes misfits, often creative, and always fun.

For me, APW takes the sugarcoating out of the wedding world and leaves the tasty treat beneath. And because of this, I’ve worked with the most real, beautiful, perfectly imperfect APW couples. I have embraced each as family, gotten dirty, made veils and bouquets, cried during speeches, and had pep talks that were sometimes challenging. You’ve sent me pictures of your dress disasters and your then dress solutions. You let me do my thing like the crazy artist I am, and I catch you when you’re laughing and crying and being, because that’s what it’s about.

Describe your artistic approach to weddings?

Little Bat is about floating around the room documenting things as they happen rather than requiring your attention when you should be having the time of your life. I go light on the posing and heavy on the organic flow, catching everything as it happens (sometimes while standing on chairs or laying on the ground, or hiding behind a tree).  By working from the inside looking out, I tell the story of what it felt like to be a guest at your wedding.

What are your non-work-related hobbies?

When not photographing things around me, I am making collages (www.prettyfunthings.com), dabbling in illustration or wandering flea markets. I read books back to back and indulge in secret special worlds that don’t exist through children’s fiction and art. I listen to records on Sundays on my living room floor and I have a tad of an obsession with vintage hats and dresses.
