Why do you want to work with APW Couples?

The only people for me are the mad ones.

Ok, so I’m unoriginal enough to use a Kerouac quote, but for real–I love creative people, unique people, wacky, goofy, nerdy, awesome people. I love weddings that are exactly what my couples want and nothing else. Chasing a newly married couple around the streets of DC and experiencing their absolute joy at having just married the love of their life. Metro-ing to the spot you had your first date for some portraits, and then having to hightail it back to the reception in a cab. Pop up weddings at places where weddings just aren’t really allowed. All of the craziness, all of the love.

Describe your artistic approach to weddings?

I’m sort of like a lifestyle portrait photographer smashed together with a documentary photojournalist at weddings. I live for couples portraits. I love finding creative ways to capture the beauty in a wedding day as it unfolds.

For my elopement clients, I’m also a stand-in tour guide–you want to take photos at a non-functioning church painted entirely in bright, whimsical colors? Gotcha. Museums? Yep. I love hanging out with awesome people, and getting to create portraits is the butter on the popcorn.

What are your non-work-related hobbies?

Well, other than photography (which I guess doesn’t qualify as a hobby), I like to try on all kinds of hats. I’m trained as a graphic designer, passionate about marriage equality, and am currently finishing up my thesis on sex education materials. I climb up enormous fake rock walls and am absolutely terrible at it. I’m a fan of CMYK, 2 tone ska, and remodeling my wacky 6-room-6-floor house. My heart was stolen by a cute/evil Siamese kitty.

What’s your favorite book?

Ask me about my favorite band! It’s the Pietasters. If anyone has a wedding with the Pietasters as the band, automatic 50% photography discount, but be warned–I will be dancing.

What’s your favorite movie?

Well…my childhood dog was named after Burko from Empire Records, and my kitty is named after Lucy Diamond from DEBS. I like my movies happy, fun, and goofy–just how I like it out here in life.

If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?

The Toasters – Don’t Let the Bastards Grind You Down. 2 Tone ska, yo!
