Why do you want to work with APW Couples?

I want to work with APW couples because though I have two hungry boys to feed, I refuse to do so with blood money from bridezillas. I love photographing weddings, and I've found over time that the more I love and respect the people in front of my lens, the better the pictures are... regardless of gorgeous settings or fancy details. In an industry teeming with soulless vendors and couples desperate to keep up with the (imaginary) Joneses, the APW community is unique. When two people who love each other take the time and effort to make their wedding a reflection of who they are and a celebration of what they are becoming, then I want to be there with my camera to help them remember it from that day forward!

Describe your artistic approach to weddings?

I have a background in cultural anthropology, and a photographic love of portraiture, resulting in wedding images that are equal parts storytelling and illustration. Whereas I see a lot of photographers focusing on details these days, I'm a firm believer that the heart of a wedding resides in the couple getting married and the friends and family they've invited to support and celebrate the journey they're embarking on. Those people give every wedding its own unique feeling, and my goal is to capture that feeling and bottle it so that it can be relived every time a couple looks through their album, whether six months or sixty years afterward.

What are your non-work-related hobbies?

I'll never pass up a game - anything from Uno at the breakfast table with my 5 year-old to Celebrity with friends at a cocktail party. I love crafty things, like hand-knit socks and beautifully wrapped gifts, and could spend any amount of time perusing Pinterest and/or Etsy. And there's nothing like a spontaneous Saturday night out with friends followed by a cozy Sunday morning spent with my family and a bottomless cup of coffee.

What's your favorite book?

Favorite? One? Yikes! I loved The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay... I can't promise it's my all-time fave, but it's up there, for sure.

What's your favorite movie?

Anything at all on a cold, rainy afternoon, preferably snuggled up with my husband.

If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?

There are plenty, but since you specifically said "at your desk", I'm going with "I Want it That Way" in tribute to one of my all-time favorite viral YouTube videos :)

Explain your travel policy:

I am available throughout the Triangle area of NC, and accept wedding commissions in Roanoke, VA and Washington, DC at no additional charge.
