Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
I want to work with APW Couples because I can’t think of a group that is more deserving of great art from their weddings. I need to work with good honest people that are in love and proud of the fact they are getting married, which is exactly what I have found in APW Couples. Most of the time I just want to sit down and have a drink with them :)
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
Wedding photography is art. I am always working with my clients through experimentation to create new pieces for them to treasure. At the end of the day, I want my clients to have beautiful works of art that they are proud to show off from their wedding day – pieces that will always trigger the emotion that they felt on that day.
I draw inspiration for my photography from all places outside of wedding photography; landscape, fashion, music, and cinematography are areas that I use as creative fuel.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
I am a lover of all things outdoors. Growing up in a beach community outside of Los Angeles, I surfed every morning and afternoon. Now that I live in the mountains just outside of Yosemite I take advantage of local outdoors sports such as kayaking, mountain biking, and hiking.
With my wife and our two little ones, we spend as much time as possible enjoying the nature around us. We are constantly exploring the world and soaking in the sights.
What’s your favorite movie?
There are plenty of movies that I find to be just beautiful; amazing cinematography, wonderful lighting etc. So many amazing works of art out there, many of them not produced my major studios. I still remember when I saw Chinatown for the first time (I was 25 at the time) and just blown away.
Growing up a surfer, I have always loved Bruce Brown’s The Endless Summer II. It’s not the best movie ever made by a long shot, but it made me dream. There was just something incredibly inspiring about it; I could do everything in the movie. I wore out my VHS copy of that movie years ago.
But of course I often find myself drawn to a good stupid comedy and for some reason I am still partial to Kingpin. The final scenes of that movie with Bill Murray sporting a gigantic come over are perfect. Still a great night of laughs.
Explain your travel policy:
I will travel in the US with no additional fees for APW Couples that book me for full weddings :)
