Why do you want to work with APW Couples?

One of the things I love the most about being a wedding photographer is having the opportunity to meet so many happy people. Just like every person is special and unique, so is every wedding. I feel truly lucky to be invited to document the special moments in people’s lives. I have so much fun getting to know the couple and capturing all the special details that everyone works so hard on. I really love the philosophy and sensibility of A Practical Wedding. With so many interesting people using the site, I can’t wait to see what we can do together!

Describe your artistic approach to weddings?

In many ways I am a painter. I studied painting for years along with photography and my affection for both has had a significant impact on my approach. My love of color and light and composition has added a somewhat painterly flavor to my work. I also really enjoy getting to know my subjects and helping to let their personalities shine through. I am also a practiced observer and love to catch the little moments.

What are your non-work-related hobbies?

I am absolutely in love with my children and I spend a lot of time taking them places and doing things together. I am also a painter, a bookbinder and a poet! I love hiking, exploring and gardening. I have a somewhat perverse affection for terrible movies, the lower budget the better! I like to watch/listen to historical documentaries while I work at my desk and I love foreign films. I also collect reference books and love to sew. In my spare time I debate zombie apocalypse preparedness plans with my friends.

What’s your favorite book?

I read a LOT. I’m lucky that I have a lot of friends who are talented writers and comic artists so I read a lot of their work. I enjoy history, philosophy, fantasy, sci fi, horror and all manner of things. I also read some comics and manga. If hard pressed I’d have to say American Gods, I’m a huge Neil Gaiman fan. Isn’t everyone?

What’s your favorite movie?

I’m loving all these movies made in the last year based on comics. They are so much fun! I think my favorite movie right now though would have to be Castaway on the Moon. It’s a Korean film and probably one of the most stunning and heart wrenching movies I’ve ever seen.

If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?

I would probably pick a perky pop song and then sing my own words over it about all the things I need to do that day. Otherwise known as my “morning task organization meeting.” Later on when I take a break on the couch, that’s an “afternoon planning session.” It’s very organized around here.
