Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
I want to work with people who are interested enough in their wedding to give the planning a bit of creative thought but without organising a wedding based upon all the things people have told them they should do. Weddings here in the UK can easily be boring – I want to photograph days that are fun, interesting and, maybe, just a little bit different!
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
I hated my own wedding photographs. They were boring and said nothing about Fiona and I. At the time I was a keen amateur who photographed absolutely everything purely for fun and I thought, hey, wedding photography shouldn’t have to be like this. When I set up my wedding photography business, Silver Photography, I always set out to offer clients a different option to the usual traditional style of wedding photography. I thought, why should a bride and groom spend so much time and effort to personalize their day and then have it photographed in a way that their wedding looks the same as everyone else’s?
My approach? Simple. Today, as I always have done, I document weddings in an more natural reportage style, taking photographs of everything and everyone as events unravel through the day to tell the story of your wedding as it happened.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
I have two main hobbies – gardening and travelling the world. Often I combine them both and visit lovely gardens in other places!
What’s your favorite book?
A Life on Air by David Attenborough. He is an irreplaceable national treasure and has led the most fascinating life!
What’s your favorite movie?
If I want a laugh then Nacho Libre starring Jack Black and, for something more serious, Sin Nombre.
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
“I don’t feel like dancin” by the Scissor Sisters.
Explain your travel policy:
No extra costs for weddings in Scotland. Modest travel charges for the rest of the United Kingdom.
