Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
You might remember me from my very first sponsorship post last year. I was all timid and shy back then, not at all sure what to expect from the awesomeness that is A Practical Wedding. Since then I have worked with so many of you wonderful people, and I have to say, I am floored at just how incredible that has been for me.
APW clients are legit ya'll! (I can say ya'll because I've lived in the South for two years now!) I feel like I've been meeting my long-lost loves ever since my first post. I get goose bumps every time an email pops into my inbox from you guys because I know in my heart of hearts that we are going to become friends. APW is more than just a wedding blog. It's a reunion of all the most amazing people you've ever met in your life all together in one room. That is why I keep coming back for more, and that is why I will give you everything I've got and more to make sure your wedding day is as special as you make me feel.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
To me wedding and engagement photography isn't about how many mason jars and hand sewn quilts you can dig out of your grandmothers attic. (although we have been known to use some occasionally!) It's not about how much money you spend on fancy clothes and accessories for your shoot either. It's about you. The people. The emotions.
When I have my first consultation with my couples, I always ask them to fill out a questionnaire. It might sound silly asking you what your favorite kind of cereal is...but everything I ask tells me a little more about you as a person. Those are the things I want to know.
Where did go on your first date? What is it about each other that makes you tick? What's your favorite alcoholic beverage (if you answer this one, I may just bring some to the shoot! Booya!) What do you do together on a sunny Sunday afternoon? What Pandora station makes you dance? I want to know everything. Inside jokes, funny stories, all of it makes our photography more than pretty poses in a pretty field. We create more than that. We create memories...moments...emotions.
Yeah, we are photographers and we take photographs, but it's with your help that we make art.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
Currently my hobbies include making our new house look like a home. My husband and I purchased our first home in July of 2011 and somewhere close to 1,793 trips to Home Depot it's starting to look more like us.
So, to answer the question, I am now into painting, cleaning, refinishing, reading home decor blogs, pinning millions of images to Pinterest, begging my husband to let me take the credit card to Ikea, landscaping, and taking long bubble baths after being covered in paint, dirt, and sweat all day. I've also stared my very first organic garden in the back yard. I have actual really enjoyed it so far, and am praying for at least a few actual vegetables to eat this summer. Hopefully...my green thumb tends to be more brown that green most days, but I'm learning.
In other news, I play the piano, I love to read books and I tend to get sucked into any "teeny bopper" (as my husband would call it) series available. Twilight, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, you name it, I've read it twice. I enjoy long walks around my neighborhood with my dog, and learning to cook Vietnamese food with my mother in law. Come on over, I make a mean Pho soup :)!
What's your favorite book?
Other than my teen books, I love love love reading the classics. Jane Austin, Steinbeck, you name it. I just love dreaming of living back then.
What's your favorite movie?
500 Days of Summer
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
I typically lean more towards a Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Songs, Adele kind of vibe...
But recently I have been listening to a lot of country music. It's strange, I hated it growing up because it was the only station we got in my tiny Nebraskan town...but now, I think it's great. It reminds me of my childhood and college when I met my husband and we used to go Swing Dancing every Sunday night. I miss that.
Drink on It by Blake Shelton is a good one.
