Whitney Huynh Photography in Atlanta with Free Nationwide Travel!

In my travels as an APW sponsor and now as Managing Editor, I’ve had a surprising number of opportunities to spend some quality time with our sponsors, both online (hey Twitter!) and off. It’s given me a great opportunity to give you guys really authentic overviews of who they are (you learn a lot about a person over a glass of wine or three), and allowed me to familiarize myself with their work over time. As a result, I pride myself on knowing your vendor community very well (okay, fine, I’ve gotten a little cocky about it. Let’s not split hairs). But every once in a while I’ll click over to check out what a longtime sponsor has been up to lately and find myself completely floored with their recent work and wondering where the heck they’ve been hiding. Which is exactly what happened when I rediscovered Whitney Huynh Photography this month, who, it turns out, is so talented it’s almost frustrating, and in case you’re wondering has been hiding out in plain site in Atlanta this whole time. (Now available with free nationwide travel! Amazing.)

So naturally when I ended up back on Whitney’s Huynh’s site, I couldn’t stop myself from gawking at her portfolio. Guys, the photos. It’s like looking at the physical embodiment of a Jason Mraz song (the sappy ones, not the ones where he sometimes raps). Whitney’s images are romantic and whimsical while also being completely full of life. (That’s right, none of those “it’s romantic because my eyes look dead” photos. You know which ones I’m talking about.)

But what I came to love after talking to Whitney, is that all of those photos are also completely representative of the people in them. And that’s where the magic lies, right? When you can look at a photo and say, “Hey, I look awesome. But also, I look like me.” And of course, the rest of the magic is in Whitney Huynh herself. In fact, I appreciated what she had to say about her business so much that I’m just going to give it to you straight from her. Because I’m assuming if it made me fall a little bit in love with her, it might just do the same for you.

As I’m sitting here writing this to you, I can’t help but feel giddy with excitement to still be here on A Practical Wedding. I have been here a while now, and have never stopped loving each and every one of you I meet. While I could sit here and tell you all just how much I love photography and how blessed it makes me feel to capture some of the happiest days in your lives, I think that is all pretty obvious. Instead, I’d like to take you on a first date. You know… life story and all that stuff. After all, if I become your wedding photographer, I will be with you more than just about anyone else that day! That sort of intimacy deserves a little more than just a few emails and a handshake the morning of your wedding. That sort of thing deserves us, you and me, developing a connection.

So I’ll go first. I’d like to tell you that I am a wife, an obsessed doggy mom, Jesus lover, abolitionist, salted caramel ice cream addict, amateur chef, and world traveler. I grew up in a very small town in rural Nebraska with one stoplight ya’ll, and the last time I was home, they had taken it down. My daddy was a farmer, and I had the most wonderful childhood running through and playing on the wide-open Nebraska land. I always dreamed of living in the city though, and my dream came true when I married my best friend and we moved to Atlanta, GA. I love a good dark beer, walks with my dog along the Atlanta Beltline, and documentaries on Netflix.

I became a photographer because I fell in love with showing people their inner beauty through my lens. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had someone tell me, “But I’m not very photogenic.” Wrong. You are all beautiful and I love the tears and huge smiles on a clients face when they see their images for the first time and say, “Do I really look like that? I look beautiful.” Yes…you do really look like that. Let me show you.

This year we are going to be treating our business a little differently. Working as a photographer for Not for Sale Georgia, my eyes have been opened to some global issues I cannot ignore. Everyone who books a wedding with us in 2013 will have donation to Not for Sale given in your name. Not For Sale is a campaign of students, artists, entrepreneurs, people of faith, athletes, law enforcement officers, politicians, skilled professionals, and all justice seekers united to fight the global slave trade and end human trafficking.

I believe my photography is different than most because while we love a gorgeous posed image, we enjoy having fun a lot more. Forget just standing around in a park. We will take you to the Brave’s stadium for some wiffle ball, to the airport to throw around paper airplanes, or to the lake spot you used to camp at together to make s’mores by a roaring fire. We will have water balloon fights, play in an empty swimming pool, and eat Krispy Kreme Donuts, because that is what you did on your first date. We will capture you in your element, telling the story of not only your romance, but the awesome friendship behind it.

Which, I mean, I don’t think I have to tell you that this all gives me a serious case of the warm and fuzzies. And the best part? Whitney really wants to photograph you guys, which means she’s offering an awesome travel discount for APW readers. For $3,700 you get all-day coverage, a website of images, all your photos on a USB, a 10×10 Album, and a surprise free gift! Local coverage with Whitney Huynh photography is $3200 for APWers (a $300 discount off her regular prices. Plus you still get a present! Sign me up).

So guys, I don’t think I have to tell you that Whitney Huynh Photography is the real deal. Just look at her work and listen to her love for you guys and you’ll put two and two together. Finally, Whitney also wanted to let you guys know that she’s planning a two month backpacking trip throughout Europe in April and May and would love to meet up and photograph some friends across the pond! Also, she’s a vendor for the Not Wedding 2013 this year in Atlanta on February 25, and she is giving away one ticket for free to an engaged bride. So if all that isn’t reason enough to contact Whitney right now, then I don’t know what is.

“just lean here against this barbed wire fence post”

    • Haha. I promise, no brides were harmed in the making of this post.

  • You guys, Whitney is awesome. She and her fab husband came to D.C. to photograph my friend’s wedding in 2011, and I will tell you three important things about her. 1) Her pictures are gorgeous, like stupid, stupid gorgeous 2) She’s totally fun to hang around with but unobtrusive enough to get the quiet squishy moments 3)She’s ridiculously fast. Like, I’m pretty sure she doesn’t sleep. We should probably hold an intervention.

I’m a wedding coordinator so I see lots of photographers at work, and Whitney is definitely one of the best I’ve been around. Go hire her. Go.

    • Aww, thanks Meigh! You are just awesome all around! I was sooo excited to hear about your new wedding coordinating business :) :)… I feel soo blessed to have gotten the opportunity to work with you and your friends. Next time I’m in town…. I’m taking you all out for wine.

  • Oh, Whitney Huynh, you’ve done it again.
She has absolutely marveled me with her brilliance. Just when I think she can’t become more talented, she folds 50 billion paper airplanes for a fantastic shoot. She’s the epitome of a thinker outside the box. In fact, it’s not a box with Whitney, it’s an origami crane. Like seriously, she doesn’t think outside the box because there is no box for her.
I am a fellow photographer from good ol’ Nebraska, and let me tell you, Whitney is an inspiration to many folks around here. Not only does she inspire, but she pushes you to pursue. She pushes you to be your best.
On your wedding day, she will do just that….she will capture you at your best, your happiest, your most emotional moments, the moments where you are beaming with love.
If you don’t hire her, I’ll have another wedding, so I can hire her again. :)

    • Jenn, I’m not sure you can out do the perfection of your gorgeous picnic wedding. Seriously. Still one of my favorites.

  • Whitney is Amazing. You should definitely hire her. It’s a no brainer. Your photos will be ridiculously brilliant.

    • Thanks Mark. You would know since I learned my brilliance and skills from you!!

  • Valerie Graf

Oh my God yes!!! You guys Whitney is AMAZING wih a capital A! Seriously, she has more talent in her pinkie then I do in my whole damn body ( It is a little unfair!) The best part is that she is so cool and nice and just so easy to get along with, it is like she doesn’t even know how talented she is. The fact that she was so nice and so easy made it so easy that she was around on a very important and at times stressful day, it was never awkward. I feel so blessed to have had her and her amazing husband as our wedding photographers ( I am that bride with my huge happy grin coming out of the church with the confetti.)We are by no means a modelesque couple and I was a little worried about photos but I can’t believe how beautiful they turned out! I still gawk over them all of the time! They really managed to capture our love and joy! Hiring them was the best wedding realted decision I made ( well besides picking my hubby!). All of you brides out there would be idiots to pass up Whitney Huynh!

What the eff is going on in that first picture? I want to BE that first picture.

    • Danielle

I am that first picture and it was just as fun as it looks!

I have known Whitney, her husband and her crazy dog for less than a year, but I can attest to the fact that she is PASSIONATE about her work and NO, SHE DOES NOT SLEEP after she completes a wedding shoot. She loves life, loves learning new things and it comes through in her work. She’s that cool, calm, creative person that knows what she’s doing, but doesn’t draw attention to herself. She doesn’t have to. Her beautiful, creative and innovative work speaks for itself.

  • Go, Whitney! Just seeing all you’ve done in the last year makes me happy (and really tired). You really are amazing!

  • MAI

I agreed with this article 100+% She gets better and better with every shoot that she does and the pictures are amazing!!!! Most importantly, Whitney’s a GREAT person with a huge heart and that is probably why she is as successful as she is. People can see that and know that she will put her all in her heart into it and make your experience & pictures AMAZING!!!

Whitney has followed my family from engagement to wedding to pregnancy to the first week with our first child, and I tell you I will never, EVER regret the decision to make her the photographer of our lives. She has captured images of my family and I that I never imagined were possible and we LOVE her dearly. Her work is tireless and inventive, beautiful and creative, and she deserve every accolade she gets and more. Thank you for posting about her on this site and getting the word out!

  • Kelly S.C.

So glad to see Whitney here again!! I found Whitney through APW for my own wedding and I love the images she captured. I still have people telling me hers were the best wedding pictures they’ve ever seen; my husband and I should be wedding models — it was all her! And not only are her images amazing, she really is the sweetest lady imaginable. If you hire Whitney, you won’t be sorry.

  • Eeeee! That’s me up there! (Third photo with the books.) And look especially gorgeous since Whitney was behind the lens.

Y’all, I don’t know how it happened, and I can’t promise this machine of a woman will be able to do this for you, but she drove her ass from DC back to Atlanta and STILL had 70+ edited photos of our wedding as a preview on Facebook in less than 24 hours. SERIOUSLY. The. Next. Effing. Day. She is amazing. If it weren’t rude to type this entire paragraph in caps, I totally would.

Whitney + you + your sweetheart. DO IT.

Whitney is so nice! Her work is beautiful and she has the classiest personality. Team Whitney!

  • Danielle

Where to even begin talking about the amazingness that is Whitney Huynh? This girl is wonderful. Her pictures are gorgeous, her personality is so fun, and she dedicates herself 150% to making sure you look awesome and have photos that you love. I mean, I never thought I’d see my picture on a wedding blog and there I am up there in the picture with the paper planes(Whitney folded all of those for our shoot) and and the one with the real plane. Book her. Immediately. Let her take pictures or your engagement, your wedding, your babies, your parties, your walk in the park, anything really! Just let her capture some aspect, any aspect, of your life and you’ll have pictures you adore and can’t stop looking at.

I first met Whitney at our engagement shoot as a second shooter for our contracted photographer, Theary Meak. Whitney was also there to shoot our wedding day. Whitney’s personality, charm and enthusiasm immediately made us comfortable and excited for the shoot. The fact is, we’re are not models nor are we amazingly photogenic. However, the photos captured by Whitney immediately brought smiles to our faces and made us want to share them with everyone we knew! Whitney (and Theary, both) were able to capture us in our most natural and comfortable state. We were not orchestrated into tricky poses nor were we ordered to fake romance. She captured our realest and rawest affection and that’s what made working with Whitney so freaking awesome!

We didn’t feel like we were being photographed, not at the engagement shoot nor on the wedding day. Rather, we were able to enjoy every moment of the day(s), uninterrupted with fussy photographers telling us to go here or there to take pose-y pictures.

One of the best things about our wedding was that we worked with photographers that we trusted and that were passionate and professional about their work. We found those qualities in Whitney and are so grateful that we got to meet and work with her.

Whitney, if you read this, thank you so much for everything, your creative efforts and patience. We appreciate it and look forward to working with you on our next milestone!

  • A really wonderful post, creative photography!. Keep em coming!
