It’s Here: 100 Layer Cake (the website!)

As long time readers know, I’m a pretty lazy wedding blog reader (bad Meg!). But one of the handful that I do read (every single day) is 100 Layer Cake. They are talented, and stylish, and they have a real voice…. oh, and I’m awfully fond of Kristina, who’s one third of the trio over there. She and I planned our weddings together online, and I love her (and her adorable baby).

So, I’m really delighted to get to point you guys in the direction of 100 Layer Cake’s brand new website. The cakelets are smart, and instead of producing yet another wedding website full of pretty, they produced a totally functional, deeply practical website (that happens to BE really pretty…)

Back when some of the 100 Layer Cake ladies were planning their own weddings, they realized that wedding technology was just not up to snuff. So they dreamed big, and built a site that lets you post requests for vendors, along with the price you can afford, and then it allows vendors with a portfolio on the site to bid on your requests. Do you get how BRILLANT this is? It takes the Craigslist on of weddings forever (and Craigslist and wedding are two words that were not made to go together). Need a hair dresser who will come to your location for under, say, $700 bucks*? Write a request. Want a budding florist do do 20 centerpieces for $500? Write a request. Seriously. You ladies who are currently in the mix looking for vendors? You need to go to 100 Layer Cake right now. APW does a lot of things right, but I’m never going to build this kind of technology, so God bless the indie wedding goddesses that did.

Oh. And did I mention their marketplace? It’s basically woman with exquisite taste selling their wedding extras for cheap. Like this 360 veil for $30… mmmm…. Or these scandinavian bird burlap tablecloths that I want to by for my own house (I’m not joking, please save me).

So go Team Practical brides, and enjoy. I’m so proud of our little indie wedding world these days. So. Freaking. Proud. (Congrats ladies!)

*The most ‘reasonable’ price I was quoted.
