Rachel’s Austin Courthouse Brunch Wedding

I asked, and the wedding answered

Rachel, Editorial Director & Eric, Mechanical Engineer

One sentence sum-up of the wedding vibe: A simple but romantic morning courthouse ceremony followed by a brunch reception with a little Austin flair.

Other Cool Stuff We Should Know About

The wedding answered all my questions, and all the answers were the right ones. Yes, everything ran on time, even though we were on a super tight schedule and spent thirty minutes looking for my car keys. Yes, the serendipitous mint green vintage car showed up. Yes, I was having one of the best hair days of my life. No, my family wasn’t doing their typical pre-important-event thing where they snap at each other nonstop and seem to lose sight of the fact that this is supposed to be fun. Yes, my dress fit, even though it was made long distance and I didn’t try it on for the first time until three days before the wedding. No, I didn’t turn into Kristen Bell getting a sloth when I said my vows (though Eric came pretty damn close). Yes, having a DJ was the right choice and yes, it was a good idea to have five cakes.

The wedding magic meant everything went according to plan, but there were still some surprises. Like the moment when the cake knife broke. Or the moment when we realized that yes, people would dance—and by “people,” I mean Eric and me, which nobody saw coming. Or that point when we realized, Oops, Eric never exactly told his family the entire truth about how we met (online, and then I moved to Texas, uh, three weeks after our first in-real-life date) but my best friend Beth doesn’t know that so she’s clearly about to tell the whole story in her speech and it’s going to be hilarious and amazing and what can they really say now?

  • HA, love the part about his family not knowing the full story of how you met. I feel that way with my partner some of the time, since we met before a lot of people assume, under slightly messy circumstances. and these pictures are gorgeous, congrats :) !

Got up and got a cup of coffee for this one and switched into Internet Explorer to so I could listen to your sountrack for reading… These are *so* lovely and every bit worth the wait. (Uh… is it weird I’ve been waiting for this post SO BAD?) I’m biracial too and, as I’m sure you well know, there aren’t a lot of pictures of ‘biracial brides’ on Pinterest, ya know? And I know it’s your job to look at pretty wedding stuff all day long but what really strikes me about your wedding is the beautiful SIMPLICITY of everything. Less really is more. Especially if it’s “less” with some huge handmade paper flowers on the side, I guess! :)
I’ve loved all your posts – your writing is awesome! I wish you and Eric every happiness together xoxo

The most important thing I got out of this was the discovery of Rent the Runway.

You all look like supermodels, it’s unbelievable. But the one of you and Eric in the car? Talk about 1960’s Kennedy glamor! Swoon. Your posts have brought such joy and perspective to this reader and I wish you and Eric a long and beautiful life together. Congratulations!!

  • This is all well and good, but were there waffles????

p.s. The dress is fab. Almost as fab as that cute new husband.

    • Haha there were not waffles! But since you asked, I’ll share the menu…

Prickly pear margaritas as the signature cocktail
Passed appetizers: deviled eggs and cornmeal-fried Gulf shrimp skewers (which came with the best Ranch dressing)

And then…there was the brunch buffet:

Blueberry muffins, cinnamon rolls, and jalapeño cornbread muffins
      Housemade migas
      Biscuits & gravy
      Chopped iceberg wedge
Lamberts baked mac and three cheeses
      Jicama, carrot, and cilantro slaw
Brown sugar, coffee, and chili rubbed natural beef brisket
Achiote and limerubbed free range chicken
Rosemary crusted smoked niman ranch prime rib

It was some of the best food of my life.

5 cakes is ALWAYS a good idea. Also echoing the supermodels comment – total babes!

  • Ah!! I’ve just loved reading all your wedding posts. The car pictures are perfection. Is it because my go to username is mintcar? Possibly, but more likely it’s because they are some seriously kick ass pictures. Cheers and a lifetime of happiness to you both!
