Betty Clicker Photography, Serving DC and Beyond

Plus a chance to win your wedding photography for free!

WHO: Betty Clicker Photography in DC and Virginia (and anywhere else you want to take her, but we’ll get to that in a minute)

WHY: Because you’ve been looking around and thinking to yourself, “How do I get that cool, artsy, moody photography style that’s so popular on the West Coast, when I’m sitting here staring out from the Mid-Atlantic?” And until now, you were pretty sure the answer was simply, “I guess I can’t.” But then in comes Betty Clicker Photography, serving Virginia and DC and anywhere else she can get to in a day’s drive from Richmond, with prices starting at $3,800, and all your problems are solved. The obvious reason to hire Betty Clicker Photography for your wedding is the photos. I mean, obviously. But then there’s Kate herself (whose real name is, sadly, not Betty Clicker). Kate’s go-with-the-flow attitude and laid-back business philosophy means you get artistic wedding photography without the headache of one of those in-your-face photographers who’s going to try and stage every minute of your life. Plus, this year Kate is updating Betty Clicker Photography’s travel policy, which means DC couples won’t have to suffer through any travel fees. See? Problem solved.

WHERE/HOW MUCH: Coverage starts at $3,800, plus, then there’s Betty Clicker’s travel policy. AKA there are no travel fees for APW readers. Kate also loves shooting elopements, just contact her for details, and again, there are still no travel fees!

If what you’re looking for in a wedding photographer is someone who will let you do your thing, unobtrusively, while making art in the process, then look no further than Betty Clicker Photography, serving the greater DC area. Kate, the woman behind Betty Clicker, is all about keeping things easy and simple. In fact, this year, she’s making a few changes to her business that I’m super excited about (keep reading to find out exactly what those changes are). And the best news? There’s a chance you can win your wedding photography for free. (Free! Yay!) But first things first, let’s talk about Kate’s approach. Because Betty Clicker Photography has a business and artistic philosophy that I can totally get behind. Kate says:

Photographers are constantly inundated with offers for styled shoots, posed photography, and petitions from blogs that are all about making the wedding look perfect. I’m much more interested in meeting new and interesting people who care more about their marriage and relationship and less about designing the perfect wedding.

I shoot primarily natural, candid photographs accented by you, friends, and family together in celebration. I do include formal portraits of family and guests on request and work off a photo schedule and checklist that we will come up with together. My priority is to get to know you as much as possible before the wedding so that I blend seamlessly into your day.

I like to think that my photography highlights the honest and candid elements of a celebration. We all love the aesthetics of a styled shoot and the resulting loveliness when it all comes together, but I like to capture what is organic and possible in the real world of relationships at the intersection of so many individuals and stories. My favorite images are the ones that show vulnerability and the genuine moments that grow from there. I see each wedding as a collaboration, which means that each event is unique rather than a result of me imposing any particular trend or style.

I most enjoy all of the amazing couples, families and other wedding professionals I meet along the way. It’s such a privilege to be part of a marriage celebration and get to know my clients, many of whom I still keep in touch with. I genuinely believe that something beautiful arises from the emphasis being on the relationships rather than the wedding. Let’s be honest. This job is just fun.

Because of Kate’s dedication to keeping things real, she’s added two exciting things to her plate this year. The first is a magazine that aims to be the opposite of what most of the wedding industry serves up:

I’m helping develop and create content for a wedding magazine that focuses on the people and relationships rather than wedding details. I’m also collaborating with two women who are starting a wedding design business and will be offering their wedding design and coordinating services in my packages. The year 2015 is shaping up to be a big year of collaboration with other photographers, designers, and wedding professionals… stay tuned!

The next is FREE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY (caps for emphasis so you know its legit) to one lucky couple. You can read more about how that works right here, but for the general gist, Kate says:

The idea is to give a day of free wedding photography to one couple (or individual) who is civic-minded and works hard to improve their community in any area—education, the arts, healthcare, social services, etc. Nominations must be made by a friend, co-worker, family member, or someone who is able to share a bit about their lives and work. The wedding can take place anywhere and on any date before December 31, 2016. All travel costs will be included, and there are no limitations on location or size of the wedding.

But most importantly, this year, Kate just wants to make it even easier for you to hire Betty Clicker Photography for your wedding. Why? Because working with awesome couples means sometimes you’ve gotta bend the rules in their favor. Kate’s current mantra is:

My goal is to make it clean and simple for a couple to hire me, regardless of where they are located. If they are excited about my work, I will meet them anywhere.

At the rate she’s going, Kate has given you about a hundred different reasons to hire Betty Clicker Photography for your DC wedding, and not one reason why you shouldn’t. Bonus: Betty Clicker Photography still has dates open for 2015, and there’s nothing Kate would love more than to fill them with APW couples. So go click right here, and put two and two together.
