Describe your business in 1-3 short sentences.
We are a husband and wife wedding and portrait photography team based in Durham, NC who really, really likes bats. We'd like to think we're funny, but there's a chance we're not. Either way, we enjoy ourselves and our job quite a bit.
Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
We like practical people, and we assume that you're practical if you're reading A Practical Wedding. APW couples are down to earth, reasonable, and excited about their wedding for all the right reasons (for their partnership and community rather than getting hung up on tiny little details and bursting into tears on a regular basis...although occasional tears are allowed). We enjoy sanity, and feel like APW breeds sane readers.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
Our photographs are primarily documentary-style with a dash of portraits and a hint of "not boring." We don't take ourselves incredibly seriously, so we tend to see a lot of humor in the day and capture it accordingly. The best photographs, in our humble opinion, are when people laugh, ring bearers have meltdowns, and when dogs refuse to walk down the aisle. Throughout the day, we try to photograph anything and everything that will come together to make a great story of your wedding... from the super big things to the really little things and a whole buncha stuff in between.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
Carolyn is an advocate of the pixie cut, cat adoption, and lunch dessert. She enjoys living in a jungle-like atmosphere, and is currently trying to keep upwards of 50+ houseplants alive with about a 20% success rate. Sometimes she plays piano (poorly). Geoff has a beard and a couple of tattoos, so his cool points are a bit higher. He likes baseball even though his fantasy team has lost for ten years in a row, and spends his off-season time repeatedly watching Star Wars trailers and playing guitar (poorly). Together they live in a contemporary house which they compulsively redecorate and have two cats.
What’s your favorite book?
Tied for first place is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides.
What’s your favorite movie?
Carolyn's is the Royal Tenenbaums. Geoff's is Star Wars. Together is the Big Lebowski.
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
Coheed and Cambria - Blood Red Summer
