Erica Reade Photography

“Erica was incredible throughout our whole wedding process with her great eye, communication, adaptability, professionalism, and kindness. We worked with her for both our engagement photos and for the day of. We knew when we received our engagement photos (very quickly!) that she was going to deliver us amazing photos for our wedding. She did not disappoint. We can be a little camera shy, but Erica made us both incredibly comfortable and we have very natural/elegant pictures as a result. She also has a fantastic eye for composition and went to scout our sites to make sure she knew the place well. Both our engagement pictures and our wedding photos look stellar against colored wall backgrounds or with the backdrop of the city. For both our engagement shoot day and our wedding day we had rain. Erica took it in stride and gave us gorgeous photos. She also managed to wrangle both of our families together in the rain (no easy feat) to get beautiful family pictures. All in all Erica had fantastic communication with us throughout. She was flexible with our last minute change from and outdoor ceremony to an indoor one because of rain, and was available to speak to us with whatever we needed. We highly recommend her for any wedding/ engagement shoot you might have. She is fantastic!!”

My motto is: wedding photography with a (feminist) twist. Translation: a focus on love, companionship and fun, not ‘bride/bridezilla culture’. I love to capture candid moments, secret smiles and raw emotions. I work with both digital and Polaroid cameras, and I use natural light as much as possible. I give a small portion of all weddings to social justice organizations.

Why do you want to work with APW couples?

I value couples and loving events in all their colors, identities, shapes, sizes, and varieties. This is not so much about ‘the bride,’ and more about the love between two people, and this is reflected in the couples who come to APW for their wedding planning. I want to work with couples who celebrate love, equality, and progressive values. For couples who embrace stepping outside the (wedding) box. That’s why I donate a small portion of all weddings to causes that matter most, including Planned Parenthood, ACLU and BLM.

If you’re not crazy about the cookie-cutter images or outdated trends being sold by the wedding industry, that’s ok. Neither am I, and your photos will be a reflection of who you truly are as individuals and as a couple.

What is your artistic approach to weddings?

Weddings are celebrations of joy, tenderness, commitment, and human connection. Your wedding photos should reflect the love and authenticity of your bond, not following a recipe laid out to you by anyone else. My photography style is a fresh, modern blend of artistic and documentary. I have an eye for decisive moments and raw human emotions. I love to capture people in their most candid moments. I work with a mix of digital and Polaroid photos, so that you have ready-to-keep photos of your special day. I like to keep things as natural as possible, and I want to maximize a couple’s comfort and fun.

What are your non-work-related hobbies?

I am huge beach bum, so I spend as much time swimming, taking photos at the beach, and surfing as I can. I have a photo series outside of my wedding work called Beach Lovers that I’m very passionate about and I spend a lot of my time on that, and working to grow my photography collective.

What's your favorite book?

Pros

We loved Erica! We just got married and we were so happy we went with Erica as our wedding photographer. It was very easy to work with her both before and during the wedding. She was very responsive to emails and made the experience of hiring and coordinating with a photographer very seamless. She scouted out the locations ahead of time and picked wonderful places to photograph us. It was so easy to work with her day of, she made us feel very comfortable in front of the camera. She listened to what we do and do not like in wedding photography. Whenever we wanted a specific combination or type of picture, she found a way to make it happen. Her second photographer Drea was amazing as well! Very fun and pleasant to work with. She sent us a sneak peak of our wedding photos and they are beautiful! Even in what I imagine is difficult lighting (we had our wedding indoors at night), everyone is glowing and beautiful lite. Both posed and candid moments came out looking great. I cannot wait to see all the pictures! Thank you Erica!!!

Pros

We eloped from the UK a week before Christmas and Erica was so easy to deal with, even with the time difference. Having a stranger take our photos could have been really awkward, but Erica made us really relaxed and managed to make 2 people who hate having their photo taken love every single one of their pictures. I would totally recommend Erica to anyone.

Cons

None, she was fantastic
