Joy by Design

I hired Joy by Design because I was feeling overwhelmed and anxious in planning by son’s bar mitzvah. In particular, I was concerned about the logistics, the small details, and ensuring that I would feel like a guest on the actual day. I had the big things figured out—vendors, venue, but was feeling suffocated by everything else. Annie stepped in, calm, cool, and collected from the get-go. Annie’s organization, her even-temper, and her attention to detail impressed me during the entire almost-a-year that we worked together. My vendors were constantly telling me how impressed they were with Annie as well. I felt like an enormous weight was lifted off my shoulders during the entire time that Annie was working with me and there was honestly never a single moment that I worried that she’d let anything go wrong. Annie anticipated anything and everything. When the actual bar mitzvah day arrived, despite an impending snowstorm, I still knew that the day was in very capable hands. The day went off without a hitch, and I truly did feel like a guest. I was really able to enjoy every moment and I was able to relax and visit with my guests. I would hire Joy by Design again, and I would recommend Joy by Design’s services to others, in a heartbeat.

Travel Policy

I love to travel. Drop me a note to see if I can make your destination work!

Elopement Policy

I love weddings of all shapes and sizes, but especially smaller, more intimate celebrations.

Because I firmly believe that "one size fits all" doesn't apply to weddings, my services are tailored to fit your needs and your budget.

Describe your business in 1-3 short sentences.

Joy by Design is a full-service event planning company specializing in intentional, authentic celebrations at every price point. My modern approach centers on giving my clients the support and services they need in an accessible, affordable way. Whether you want someone to walk you through everything step by step, or just need someone to give you a road map, I tailor each package to match your needs and budget.

Why do you want to work with APW couples?

During my own wedding planning process, APW was crucial in helping me and my fiancee craft a meaningful celebration that felt like us.

Now as a vendor, APW is my bastion of sanity and honesty in an industry that often feels far removed from both of those things.

My ultimate goal is to help my clients craft a celebration that is an authentic and thoughtful reflection of themselves, discarding all the “must do” or “should do’s” and instead focusing on what’s most important to them.

Lucky for me, I just described APW couples!

What is your artistic approach to weddings?

A caretaker at heart, I consider it the greatest honor to shepherd my clients through the important moments in their lives that deserve celebrating. My approach to weddings is twofold:

(1) To give my couples the support and guidance they need throughout the planning process and

(2) To take on all the details of their wedding day so they can be truly present to celebrate with each other and their loved ones.

What can you expect when working with Joy by Design? Genuine enthusiasm, hugs (Midwest is Best), and a healthy dose of sanity.

What are your non-work-related hobbies?

I am, first and forever, a devoted dog mom.

When I’m not planning puppy parties (only half joking), you’ll likely find me cooking with my husband, listening to true crime podcasts, or binge watching obscure British shows on Netflix.

I also love baking (this year’s goal is homemade challah!) and a good nap.

What's your favorite book?

A forever book worm, you’ll usually find me with a thriller, anything by Liane Moriarty, or something from the best seller list.

A few favorites are The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker, I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith, and Oh the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss.

What's your favorite movie?

Anything with Doris Day or Cary Grant, the first adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (any Jane Austen, really), Beginners, and the John Wick trilogy.

If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?

Blank Space by Taylor Swift.
