Why do you want to work with APW Couples?
Because I smiled really hard when I filled out the sanity pledge. Because I want to work with couples who burn brightly and who want photography that makes them feel.
APW is unique, real and down to earth and the readers seem to be the same way. It feels like APW couples could totally be my friends and that's a wonderful way to start anything.
Describe your artistic approach to weddings?
I'd say my approach is mostly photojournalistic and intuitive. I have a spidey sense for moments and a genuine love for people. I'm also very influenced by cinema and fine art photography and it all comes together to tell my couple's stories in a way that I hope feels authentic and personal.
What are your non-work-related hobbies?
I like going to art museums and getting the audio tour. I scribble down notes for photo projects that I don't understand later.
I go to the Farmer's Market every Sunday - the lady that sells dandelion greens knows me by name and this secretly makes me really happy. I cook. I make gigantic salads that no one can finish but they really want to. I meditate. I go to storytelling shows like the Moth and clap really hard especially when they look nervous.
What’s your favorite book?
The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales
What’s your favorite movie?
It depends on my mood - hmm, i'd say the two that hit all my love buttons are Spirit of the Beehive and Practical Magic.
I honestly didn't even know I had "love buttons" until I just wrote that. And now I suddenly feel guilty for leaving out Hudsucker Proxy. Or The Hours. Or The Apartment.
I have to walk away from the keyboard now.
If you could have a one minute dance party at your desk, what song would you pick?
Janelle Monae's Tightrope.
